- Well, what can't this cool guy do? He can run, jump, hop, roll and lots more. To control him use the arrow keys on the PC keyboard or the gamepad controller.
- Abe can walk from A to B with little fuss. His footsteps will be heard though, so if a Slig is nearby you will need to sneak.
- To sneak, hold the Alt key down and press the left/right arrows. He can then creep around and past the sligs.
- Abe mostly needs to run... and run and run. To do this, hold the Shift key down and use the left/right arrows. He can outrun most creatures.
- To get over gaps in the ground and levels, just like in any platform game, you will need to perform a jump or hop. To make a running jump, press the Space bar or the Up arrow key while running along.
- You may also perform standing jumps, but as in real life, a running jump will go longer. So you must assess which jump you need to perform. Also, a running jump will normally cause you to carry your speed further a little, and not stop as soon as landing. To do a standing jump press the Space bar.
- Sometimes there are tunnels or low areas that you need to get into. To do this Abe can crouch and roll himself along. To roll, crouch down (press down arrow or X) and then press the right/left arrow to move off in that direction. If you are running, you can also press X to switch into a fast roll - very useful when you need to escape some very smaller persuing creatures through a tunnel (eg. slogs or paramites).
- You can crouch down to pick up objects or to hide behind objects or in shadows. Simply press the down arrow to crouch. If you are at the edge of a plaform or ledge you will climb down if you use the down arrow, so use the X key to crouch.
- To grab a ledge above you, you will need to jump vertically off the ground. Press the Up arrow to grab the ledge or object above. You can also do this to knock the swinging bags of rocks and meat.
- If you are under a ledge and have jumped up to grab it, or you have run and jumped to grab onto a ledge, you can hoist yourself up by pressing the Up arrow.
- The Up arrow can also be used to mount your trusty pal, Elum. Stand in front of him and press Up to climb on his back. When you are on Elum you control him using your own movement commands, but you are limited (of course) to what you can actually do.
- Abe cannot control levers or chant while on Elum, so you will have to dismount him first.
- Also, pressing the Up arrow while standing in front of, or while running past, a well will make you jump into it. (Actually, you should press the arrow just before the well because as with any running action, you always take another step). This is also a good method for entering doors quickly, when on the run, instead of sliding and crashing into the wall (allowing you to be shot as you slowly recover).
- Throwing objects is extremely important to Abe. He needs to hit objects, blow things up, distract creatures, and anything else you can think of. To throw a projectile you need to hold the Z key down and then press an arrow key. You can throw in any direction. If you are crouching, you can even roll the object along.
- Of course you will need to pick the objects up, before you can doing anything with them. To do so, crouch down and press the Ctrl key. The Ctrl key is the action key and is also used for things like switching levers and pressing buttons.
- Probably the most important action, that is also the most magical and cool, is the chant. Abe needs to chant to do many things. He can possess other creatures, rescue mudokons, read secret messages, and more. To chant, press the 0 key and keep holding it down until the desired action is achieved.

- Abe is indeed a noisy little bugger. He makes many sounds to antogonize others, identify himself, gain access to areas, and express his various emotions. (He really likes it when you run him into a wall). Personally, I like the crunching noise he makes just after you accidentally run him straight into a meat grinder.
- Abe likes to say Hello. This normally starts off a conversation or gains the attention of the other creatures, be they mudokons, sligs or whatever. Even Elum will respond to Abe's Hello. Press 1 to say Hello.
- When you require your buddies to follow you, simply press 2 to get Abe to say Follow me.
- When the little guy(s) are following you and you wish them to halt, press 3 to say Wait. Wait and Hello are crucial for rescuing your little mudokon pals.
- When asked for "password" from the other mudokons, you will need to recite back a series of sounds, in exactly the same order (and timing). Use your additional sounds for the passwords. You have 2 whistles; a high one and a low one, a laugh and the humorous (or disgusting) fart sound.
- You also have a few different sounds when different actions occur, such as Abe running into a wall, falling off a ledge, and causing the demise of a slig guard.

- Well, this is indeed the hard part. Have no fear - this game gives you infinite lives, and you'll need every one of them. The idea of the game is to die many times before getting it right. It focuses on the idea of learning from your mistakes and yet the biggest thing people still have problems with is expecting to get it right the first time through.
- The game is set out as a lesson. You are told different things throughout the game, taught different moves, learn vital secrets and more that will give you the knowledge you need to solve the puzzles and rescue all your buddies. But do NOT think you will rescue all your buddies the first time through. You will not, nor are you expected to. After all, what fun would that be if you played Abe's Oddysee once and then it sat on your shelf for the rest of it's life.
- You should closely analyse every situation you are put in and always try to do things differently. See what works with the different creatures and what doesn't.
- You will need to out-run, out-think and out-perform the creatures. You will also need to stay clear of the many destructive devices in the game.
- The plot of the story is simple. Abe wants to get the hell out of Rupture Farms. He needs to escape, passing through all the hazards, and leave his days of floor waxing and harsh treatment behind him. Little does he know that fate will see him reenter the factory and not only save his little budies, but try and bring to an end the production of fast foods made from the local fauna.
- Don't give up and try to do something in as many different ways as you can think of.
