The Moves |
- By far, the coolest creature in this game is your pal Elum. (Elum is mule spelt backwards. Think about that, and no, it's not a coincidence). Elum is useful mainly for jumping those huge gaps that Abe cannot.
- Once Abe has mounted Elum (stand in front of Elum and press Up) you control Elum's actions. He will respond to you precisely, but he is a much larger, slower creature than Abe, so take this into account.
- To make Elum run, press the Shift and arrow keys... and hold on. It's a very bumpy ride.
- Like in any platform game, the creature will take an extra step to propel itself for a running jump. Make allowances for this, or else you will run straight off the edge.
- To jump with Elum you can press Space to do a standing jump (equivalent to Abe's running jump distance) or press the Space bar while running to launch yourself (and Elum) into a larger jump.
- Elum cannot creep using the Alt and arrow keys. He can also simply walk in any direction but he is a little clumsy.
- Elum turns well and will always stay put when told.
- The one problem you have with your pal is that he really likes honey. Don't expect him to follow your commands when he is eating. But he doesn't like bees and walks off (and scratches) to get away from them.

Communication |
- Elum doesn't really talk, he mutters. He makes annoying little sounds that express his dismay, excitment, anger and cooperation.
- Elum will utter a sound in reply to your "Hello", fart and laughter, and the calls for him to "Follow me" and Wait".

Surviving |
- Elum can indeed be shot and blown up - and doesn't it look great when a leg flies out of the screen and hits you in the head. Man, do you feel guilty for killing your only true friend!
- As long as you use the right jump at the right time you should be fine. He is very good at charging along, with a hop, skip and a jump, to get you through those mine-filled areas.
- The key is really to know when to use Elum and when to dismount and do it with Abe (LOL... no, I didn't mean it that way!)

Tips and Tricks |
- Elum will follow you to the ends of the earth and back, so treat him nicely. He does like a good scratch behind the ears every now and then. Also, say hello to him often - just so he knows you care.
- Elum jumps really well, but practice that timing. There is one jump in the game that seems almost impossible to make - but it isn't. You need to remember he will take an extra step and he has a longer stride than Abe.
- He loves honey but hates the bees. You will not be able to disuade him from feasting on any sweet sticky gold that he finds. So you will need to drive him from it. The bees will sting him (just like they do to you) but his skin is thicker and he will not die. He will simply try to escape them.
- Use Elum only for the big jumps and fast dangerous sections, or where you need to get him through. Don't rely on him always as he is not as flexible and versitile as you. He tends to slow you down and limit the things you can do.
