SCRABS

The Moves
  • The scrabs would have to be the most menacing looking creatures I have ever seen in an adventure game. That jaw is huge and they are ready to attack you the first opportunity they get. (These guys are brilliantly drawn and digitized and my hat goes off to the GTIS artists.)
  • The scrabs have 4 very powerful legs. They will chase you down like a dog. They are very fast and will catch you if you try and out-run them over long distances.
  • They attack by kicking you with their huge clawed legs or swiping you with their beak. They need to be reasonably close to you.
  • The scrabs are excellent jumpers.
  • They mostly parade around like sentries and patrol the Scrabanian land.

Communication
  • They love to let out gut-wrenching shreeks.
  • They will not respond to any of your words or noises but hate the chants. Chant near one of them and watch them let out their ear-piercing shrills.
  • They also shreek to talk to each other but don't really get along.

Surviving
  • Run like the wind. These creatures are by far the most menacing in the game and right from the second level will begin to give you headaches.
  • Never think they will leave you alone. If they find you, they will follow you and stick around until they get a chance to destroy you.
  • The Scrabania Temple would have to be your worst nightmare. Dozens of them ready to track you down and devour your flesh. Your best chance of survival is to avoid them at all cost or plan ahead.
  • Nothing will distract these guys (like the meat does with the paramites) so you will have to rely purely on your abilities.
  • You can out-run and out-jump them over short distances if you get a good start.
  • Never hang from an above level or a below one.

Tips and Tricks
  • The real trick to surviving in their world is to put two scrabs together. They are extremely territorial and will fight each other to the death. You can get the job done while they battle (or just stand back and enjoy the show).
  • If you make a jump and miss the level and wind up hanging on the edge, you might as well let go. They will not let you hoist up without spearing your ribs with their beak.
  • You will often have to outrun them, either to escape or rescue mudokons, so be sure to get a good lead. They will eat it up and gain on your quickly.
  • When about to jump down onto the same level as them and run away, wait until they are looking the other way. This will give you some additional time as they turn around, look at you and think "Ahhh, lunch!".
  • Although these are by far the most deadly creatures in Oddworld, there are not many tricks to surviving them. Lots of practice (which you will no doubt be forced to get) and plenty of running is your best defense.

My thanks to Talon for his help with this section.
