Mae (as played by Poney Vincent)

I was born in the small city of Vikariel a half day north of the capital of Eldhome. I have followed a wandering star since I was fifty and roamed the Great Kingdom till I settled for a while in Freeport. I found that playing the Game came easy to me and used it as a living. It was better than working. I liked keeping to the shadows and slipping in and out of buildings almost at will. Opening lock doors and closed pockets were second nature to me. Life was easy and care free, but with no meaning or direction.

Then I met Dugal McAlister. I first saw him in the tavern I was staying at. Dugal had that innocence that I find only in extremely young humans. It’s a refreshing innocence that we Elves lose quickly in our first twenty or thirty years. Dugal’s face and manners intrigued me and for that reason I kept an eye on him. I’m glad I did as one of the Gamer Captains tried to drug him for his crew. I “rescued” him and we have been adventuring partners ever since. He has a great knack for fighting, something which I lack. I can get in the occasional quick kill, but only if the “bad guy” is distracted. Dugal has a way with others, people seem to want to follow him, take for example his Hippogriff, Sri-awk. We captured Sri-awk while traveling to the Dwarven capital city. They have taken to each other from respect rather than the bullying that I have seen some humans do to other animals.

After roaming the Great Kingdom with Dugal for about a year, we met up with a half Elf named Niamh. She was wanting to escape the drudgery of working for her mother in their Tavern, so she snuck out and chased us down the boardwalk and asked to be taken in. Both Dugal and I saw ourselves in the younger woman and agreed. She was a great cook and better sorcerer, her skill and wisdom at diplomacy are beyond her young age. She inspired me to expand myself with magic and I took up the calling of wizardry. This is an old way and is scarce in the Great Kingdom. But since I had not the natural calling that Niamh had, I needed to go the book route.

Though this road was a hard one to travel I found a wonderful teacher in Cindaer Thorne. She is a human who lives in Eldhome and taught me the ways of the wizard. After many false starts, lots of crying and confusion, and learning how to sew, I managed to complete my beginnings. I found that I have yet another knack from which I can work. My skill now is such that I can open locks and pick pockets from a distance. What a combination!

As the three of us traveled our reputation grew. After so long in shadows, I resented this at first, but then grew to enjoy it. I still pause every once and while to find that someone in Eldhome, that I don’t know, knows what I am doing elsewhere. This is disturbing to me.

We then met up with one of the Maeli people, a priest named Hinnom. His ways were as strange to us as ours were to him. He traveled with us to learn about other people. I hope his education was worth the adventures we took him on. His quiet, holy ways would fall to fits of rage when in battle. This seems to be the way of his people, quiet till provoked. I have learned much from him and on two occasions I have come to owe him my life.

Along our travels in years, I have been with Dugal as he married Shellie, a Hafling, and Niamh in turn married Pellerind, a human. We rescued a town south of Eldhome named Shady Meade from a Blue Dragon and they in turn asked us to be the new Mayors and Guardians. We have accepted and look forward to our new house and arcane lab once they are built.

I’ve come along way from just taking care of myself to caring for a whole community. I’ve grown up since I was ninety years old. I might even look forward to settling down and finding a lover of my own, one whom I can stay with for the next two or three hundred years. But I’m in no hurry. I’ve got time….and there will always be the children to go adventuring with.....
