Type 79 | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The Type 79, aka WZ 121D, represents another enhancement of the old Type 59. Most noticeable is the upgraded 105mm rifled gun fitted with a replaceable thermal sleeve. This gun differs from that on the Type 59-II in that it is mounted for easy removal and replacement if necessary(?). Also missing are the IR searchlights which have been replaced by passive IR sights. The tracks are also fitted with removeable rubber shoes. Also of interest is the NBC system which is a further development of the Type 69-II that actually shuts all hatches automatically when chemical agents are detected (oi!! dats me head!!). In PLA service this tank is known as the Type 69-III and uses the same gun as the Type 59-II. -Desperado6 |
