Type 90-II SPADA
This new self-propelled air defence system appears to be the first new indigenous sp gun system to be mass produced since the Type 65 (T34/85 conversion). Earlier attempts were the Type 80 and Type 86/88 which were not mass produced. This system is particularly interesting because of the above recent photo which reveals the existence of two HN-5 type IR missiles mounted with the guns (I believe them to be QW-2 version). Some sources identify this hybrid gun/missile system as Type 95 and an earlier 25mm gun only version (depicted below) to be the Type 90-II. I believe the radar to have search/acquisition and track modes with with limited gun cue-and-slew capability(total speculation). I would like to get a better look at the front of the turret which is obscured by the hatches in all photos I have seen, it may have an EO sensor for passive tracking.
Type 89 SP Gun
The Type 89 SP Gun is rather unique among modern armies. The Type 89 mounts a 120mm smoothbore gun reported to be identical to western 120mm Rheinmettal Gun in the Abrams and Leopard, capable of using all western unitary ammunition types. The chassis is based on the Type 83 152mm SPA and I believe it to be only lightly armored. This system came online just as the SU-100 was being phased out of Chinese service, it may serve the same role as the SU-100 or use emerging doctrine in line with its unique characteristics. The photo below is amusing because it recalls pre-ww2 Nazi propaganda photos of tanks being built apparently by the thousands when only a few were actually completed. I believe that in fact this system is being mass produced now for the PLA.
Type 98 MBT
The Type 98  tank is the newest tank to enter mass production in the PRC. It mounts a copy of the 125mm 2A46m gun and appears to possess thermal sights. The V-splash shield on the glacis and self-entrenching blade below resemble the T72 series.
