Well, here goes! (Warning, this is my best understanding)
The Camarilla-
This is a group of seven clans (Brujah, Gangrel, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere and Ventrue) who are dedicated to preserving their failing umanity. They want to live amongst the humans and call them brother, while also taking care of them.

The Sabbat-
This is a group of 2 clans (Lasombra and Tzimisce) and the rebels of the Camarilla who want to embrace thier vampiric side. They think that it's a step up in evolution and should rule over the lesser humans.

The Inconnu-
This is a group of the vamps from all the clans and bloodlins who are dedicated to staying out of The Jyhad (the secret game that the old vamps play to rule the world) and try to abtain a state known as Golconda (Where they no longer need to feed off humans and lose their beast (the animal insticnt in everything and one))

Clans
Assamite-
This is a clan of vamps who are master assasins. They train in a hidden castle fortress for years perfecting their art. Once in the past, thy decided to attck the rest of the clans and drink all their blood. They were eventually stopped and as a punishment, they can no longer drink vampiric blood without feeling pain.

Brujah-
Well, this clan used to be about enlightening yourself but it grew to just plain rebelion. Some argue for a cause, others just argue. They got really mad after their perfect city "Carthage" was distroyed, thus springing the rebels who just want to get even with everyone else. Also, Brujah was killed by his followers, dividing the clan in 2.

Followers of Set-
This clan is based out of Egypt. They follow a God named Set, suposedly the closest thing to a devil that the Egyptians had. The clan is dedicated to corrupting the rest of the world (I guess they want to send all the souls to Set to give him power. This is one of the clans I know the least about...)

Gangrel-
Rumored to be either an off shoot of the Ravnos clan or desendents of Lilth, this clan is the amongst the most primotive, and thus most pure. Not that they are like the Amish, they jsut prefere the forest to the city, and a night alone to a night in some club. They are loyal and when they get fired up, can be unstopable!

Giovanni-
This is the first of the clans on the list that stole the right to be a major clan. These are the mobsters of the vamps. They control the Mobs. (Again, another of the clans I'm not that familiar with)

Lasombra-
These guys are the rulers of the Sabbat. Their clan leader, Lasombra, was soon killed by his followers and a new guy took over, deviding te clan up. Those who killed Lasombra are the ones in the Sabbat today.

Malkavians-
These vamps are cursed with maddness, but it seems to grant them profound insight. "There is method to his madness"

Nosferatu-
Well, these vamps are cursed with to become really REALLY ugly. They shun the rest of the vamps and trade information. The stay to the sewers and are very hard to get to.

Ravnos-
This is a clan made up mostly of Gypsies. They have to perform some act of dishonesty when ever possible. They don't respect Princes rules and go wherever they want.

Toreador-
This is a clan devoted to the atrs. They spend their time exploring thier immortal souls and preserving works of art and those artists.

Tremere-
This clan is made up of wizards. Again, they killed anther powerful vamp and took over as a major clan. They are the most untrusted of the Camarilla, mostly due to the fact that they keep their motives secret and the elders can have the whole clan under their control very easily.

Tzimisce-
Well, again I don't know much, but I think they are trying to evolve even further than their vampiric state.

Ventrue-
These are the buisnessmen and bankers of the vamps. They feel the need to take care of the rest and protect all of them. They tend to be the leaders.
