Final Fantasy 1 is the game that started it all for me.
Although it wasn't the first RPG for Nintendo, it was the beginning of
a new trend. A trend of great games. It was one of the earlier
Nintendo games but probably the best IMO. It featured great graphics
for its time, good music and endless hours of game play. It also
featured something that I think the newer Final Fantasies are missing
- a class system. There was a noticeable difference between a fighter
and a thief, not just that they could use different weapons. If you
haven't played this game before, you're truly missing out. Go out
and buy it or download it or something.
| Graphics: / 10 | 8 | The graphics were amongst the best of its time. |
| Characters: / 10 | 8 | It had a very distinct class system, each person was very different. |
| Plot: / 20 | 15 | The plot was probably the only real downfall, with no twists or surprises. It was clear from the beginning what you had to do, but compared to other plots at the time........ |
| Music: / 10 | 7 | Pretty good music, although emulators really butcher it. |
| Other: / 10 | 8 | It offered many new features over the other RPGs of its time. |
| Overall: / 20 | 17 | It was and still is a great game, with a high replay value. A true Classic. |
CHARACTERS:
At the beginning of the game you decide which class each member of your
team will be. This is the only* Final Fantasy that lets you do that.
FF 2 does to an extent, where each person has a class but you dont get
to pick it. I like this system better than the new one, where the
only real difference between characters is how they look and what weapon
they use.
OTHER:
The only other RPG out at that time was Dragon Warrior. While it
was a great game, Final Fantasy surpassed it in almost every way.
It offered imporved spell systems, loads more equipment and was a much
bigger game.
OVERALL: The game was extemely fun to play at the time and is still one of my favourite games today. It is probably the best Nintendo game out there.
