Zean are only found on the gas world of Zeanith in the Harth system. There look like large potatoes with hundreds of small thorns sprouting all over their lumpy bodies. The most common color of these unusual creatures is brown, although some have been reported as black, blue, and even red. In many ways they are more related to the fungi of other worlds as they are unintelligent and only react to outside stimulants.

Zean are solitary creatures that live in poisonous gas clouds. Due to the hazardous nature of their habitat, little is known about how they live.

Zeans require the poisonous gas clouds of Zeanith to survive. Something about the mixture of gasses is both food and a breathing source for these unusual creatures. If removed from this environment, the zean will soon perish.

Combat:
Zean have no coordinated way of attacking. The only thing that can even remotely be considered offensive is when one touches something.

Plant: Immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, and polymorphing. Not subject to critical hits.

Thorns (Ex): When a zean touchs something the many thorns on its bodies cause the zean to stick fast. If touched by bare flesh this causes 1 hp of damage and transmits spores to the creature stuck. 24 hours after the spores have entered the victim's body several large growths appear in random places over the victim's body. Over the next week the spores grow and consume the host (this causes a loss of 1 Constitution point per day.) when the hosts Constitution has reached 0 the victim dies and spores have reached maturity. At that point 3-8 small zean emerge form the body. Until then the spores can be remove from the victim by any curative magics or an anti-fungal herbal treatment. Constitution returns at a rate of 1 point per week of rest.
