Advice for DMs starting a new AD&D PBEM
campaign:
My
advice for people looking to start their own PBEM AD&D campaign:
Tell new players the answers to the following questions when starting
a new PBEM AD&D game. It will save you lots of trouble later
on.
What level or XP total will the characters have?
Do
you restrict characters' alignments? how?
How will you determine the characters' attributes?**
How much gold/wealth will they start with?
What world is the game in? Where should characters come from?
What is the geography of the area the characters start in?
Do
you ban any races/classes mentioned in the Players' handbook?
Do you allow any races/classes not mentioned in the Players' handbook?
How long is the game expected to last?
Look through my optional rules at http://www.oocities.org/cerewa/housrulz.html
and decide for yourself which of my rules are to your liking and which
aren't.
Tell
players what info should be in their character sheet. (I suggest you ask for basic background and other info in addition
to stats, race, class, etc.)
TELL THEM TO SEND YOU THEIR CHARACTER SHEETS WITH THEIR SUBMISSIONS! It will save you lots of headaches. You will immediately be able to decide who is in and who's not. Be sure to pick people who seem to make detailed backgrounds with an intent to have a fun-to-play, interesting character without being overly weird, and without stretching the rules to become the most powerful character possible. (Basically NO MUNCHKINS-unless
you like muchkins :-) )
Finally, I suggest you ask your new players
to answer the questions on this page:
