Command & Conquer 2: Tiberian Sun
Watch out for this NUKE!
A couple years ago when Command & Conquer was first released, gamers watched the intro and marveled at the preview of C&C2. Since then all gamers have hungered to find out what was this preview for, and how much power that Mech actually holds. While at Westwood Studios, they were building a C&C that would drop a Nuke on the competition. C&C 2 has graphics that surpasses all RTSs that I have seen! This game has ideals used in Dark Reign! By this I mean upgrades, and hover vehicles. Westwood is also introducing a new ideal for gaming night and day light effects Thats right! You play night missions! Also lights just sitting around the place in an enemy base can be knocked out for missions requiring stealthy activities. With 3D graphics they are using voxels ("volume pixels" pixels with height, width and length) to render vehicles in 3D instead of using bitmap sprites as in the previous C&C games. When it comes to unit movement, for example the Mammoth Tank, Youll see the turret rotate and if the target is at another elevation pitch up or down accordingly, and upon firing roll slightly from the kick of its massive guns. Also voxels allowed Westwood to show realistic damage effects where possible. When certain vehicles sustain damage they lose some components fighting, but will still be able to limp their busted butts back to base, as sparks fly and ignore the "non-smoking section". On the infantry side, the grenadiers are even more realistic the grenades roll and bounce varying with the terrain!
The story takes place about 20 years after the ending of the first C&C. Tiberium has spread rapidly and forced GDI to move much of the population to the arctic settlements to avoid contamination . Meanwhile, NOD takes its forces underground (by which I mean subterranean) to escape the Tiberium. In the C&C finales, it is the GDI ending which is carried on into this C&C. Kane is so far known, dead. With Kane gone, and NODs leader gone, NOD becomes fragmented and factional and even more dangerous. While GDI is fighting to keep order in the remaining habitable land, NOD is experimenting with Tiberium. Unfortunately not all of the population is spared there are still a some that from time of Tiberium exposure, have mutated! These few are neglected by GDI and abused by NOD. These victims in the middle have come to call themselves The Forgotten. And so, a new generation of conflict begins
With decades of tech complementing both sides, new units arise. Here is what I have found on the new "toys": jetpacking infantry, three types of Orca hoppers (fighter, bomber, and troop transport), a walking "Mech" , a sonic boom-blasting "disrupter" tank (kind of reminds me of Dark Reigns Shock Wave with its seismic blast), hovercraft tanks, and even subterranean "mole" tanks and APCs that drill underground and emerge in the center of an enemy base! Those are the units I have found, but not much anything on them. Units in C&C 2 also have the ability to get smarter! And something that hit me is that Westwood gave the Harvesters brains!!!! HALLELUYAH!! The units will make any game player happy and want more destruction. Though when it comes to unit building, the ideal of building more that one "unit producing building" will now just give you a new place for units to pop out of. The unit speed up seems to have been diminished (DANG!!)
Be prepared for when it comes out. C&C 2 is going to be the biggest game of 98! I have found that the release date is November 2. So when this date hits, get to the nearest software store and buy this game.
