Quick rules for playing chess in Vampire: The Masquerade created by Ross Weston. THE RULES: - White player goes first Table A shows the dice rolls required to capture a chess piece. Table A:
* If a 1 is rolled the player has left some of his pieces in a vulnerable position. The other player gets to roll one more dice in his next turn for each score of 1 that was rolled by his opponent. * If the attacker rolls a 10 then the defending player must roll a 7+ to save his king. If the king is saved then the defender rolls another dice to see if a piece had to be sacrificed to save the king. If the result is less than 5 then no pieces were sacrificed and the king is safe. If the result is 5+ then refer to table A to see which piece was sacrificed. If there are no pieces of that type left to sacrifice then choose the next highest piece. If the King is the next highest piece then it survives but is endangered and gets a -1 on the next survival roll. * If the attacking player rolls a score and no pieces are left for that score then a piece from the next group up is captured. * The game ends when the king is taken. EXAMPLE GAME: Bob & James are playing a game of chess. Since Bob is the white side he moves first & rolls 3 dice for his intelligence and 2 more dice for his manipulation. He scores 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 which means he takes a pawn, a knight, and a rook. However one of his pieces is in danger because he rolled a 1. In Jame's turn he rolls 2 dice for his intelligence, 1 dice for his manipulation, and 1 extra dice because of Bob's error (the roll of 1). James scores 3, 4, 5, 7 which gives him one of Bob's pawns and a knight. In Bob's turn he rolls 5 dice and scores 4, 5, 8, 8, 10. He captures a pawn, two rooks, and a chance at taking the king. However James has only 1 rook left so the extra score of 8 becomes a 9 which is the black queen. James starts to get nervous because he is running out of defenders for his king. If another 8 or 9 is rolled by Bob then Jame's king will be attacked instead. James must now try and save his king from Bob's natural 10. He rolls 1 dice and gets an 8 which saves his king. James rolls another dice and gets a 5 which means that he had to sacrifice a pawn to save his king. In the next turn James attacks and rolls 3 dice scoring a 2, 4, 10. Somehow James has endangered Bob's king. Bob rolls a 7 to save his king and a 3 which means that he didn't have to sacrifice any pieces. In Bob's turn he rolls 5 dice and gets a 3, 5, 6, 8, 9 which captures a pawn, a bishop, and endangers the king twice. James rolls 1 dice to save his king and gets a 9. He rolls another dice to see if he had to sacrifice and gets an 8. His king is safe but is in a vulnerable position and will make its next survival roll at -1. James makes his second roll to save his king and needs an 8+ because of the -1. He rolls a 4 and the king is taken. Bob wins the game.
