Arcane Flow

The mysterious Arcane holds an almost perfect monopoly on the spelljamming helm trade in the area of the Phlogiston known as Arcane Space. The secret of helm manufacture is one that they guard jealously, some say religiously. Any attempt by outside parties, other than the Beholder nations, to produce helms will start the Arcane looking towards stopping it. Often they will simply disrupt the enchantment while it is progress. If that fails then they resort to more lethal means, often killing the mage or priest in question.
In the oldest legends of the oldest spelljamming races there were arcane. They have used their monopoly on spelljamming helms to make themselves one of the most powerful, if not the richest, race in this area of the phlogiston. They keep their trading empire through the means of careful threats, brides, and the occasional assassination. The usual targets of these practices are merchants and mages that are trying to bypass the Arcane and create an independent spelljamming trade.
If it can be imagined, then the arcane will sell it. Often times, they sell it before it has even been made. Reports from realmspace state that the island nation of Wa ordered and paid for their Chi Helms five years before they were delivered. This is just one example of how the arcane can create a market before there is even an item to sell.
The region of phlogiston known as Arcane Flow encompasses almost five hundred crystal spheres. Most of these spheres are located on one of the largest phlogiston rivers ever found. The largest river, known as the Arcane outer flow, is reported to have several hundred crystal spheres. There are other phlogiston rivers, like the inner flow, that have up to twenty crystal spheres floating in the rainbow ocean. Of these rivers only three have been completely navigated and charted. One is the triad river, containing the spheres of realmspace, greyspace, and krynnspace. Another is called the inner flow, and it contains twelve crystal sphere. The third is not named and is simply known as a connector river; it connects the triad river with the inner flow and the outer flow.
Most of the known spheres are humanoid dominated. Spheres controlled by the neogi, beholder, and other more alien races are the rare exception. The crystal spheres of this region follow, with a few exceptions, the usual physical and magical laws found on normal planets.

Black Flow

This area in the plosgiston is thought to be a magic dead area. It takes about 2,595 days to travel completely around. The normal brilliant hues of the phlosgiston are an unnatural black. This aera is actually a sarragosso sphere. Once entered the ship drops out of spelljamming speed and is adrift. With non-magical engines speed is at SR 1. At this speed it takes 5 months to cross into the interior of the sphere, at a faster SR the time is reduced by 2 weeks per SR. Once out of the magic dead area the phlosgiston is a dark grey but magic will work and spelljamming speed is possible. There are a few crystal spheres in the grey phlosgiston. Some unusual properity of the grey phlosgiston causes the shperes to become bright multicolored spheres instead of the normal black spheres. It is within these spheres that some very unusual discoveries have been made. For further information see the Isver page.

History

The interior of the black phlosgiston was originally discovered about a thousand years ago by a Tradesman that had gotten lost inside the shell after trying to evade a pirate ship. It evaded the pirates and found itself inside the blask flow. Luckly most of the crew had been lost in the fight and the ship had a non-magical engine on board. After about six months of wandering around in the sphere it found its way to the inside of the sphere. Once it was discovered that the helm would work agian they set about hoping to find a crystal sphere and replenish thier dwendling supply of air and food. Soon enough they found the crystal sphere of Isver. They set down upon the only inhabitable planet. Very soon after they landed they found out that on Isver bipedal beings were the stuff of myths and nightmares. After proving themselves not to be a threat they traded all of thier goods and began to show the wemics the wonders of wildspace.
The tradesmen had a spare minor helm so it was sold to the wemics before the tradesmen left for home. After about one hundread years the wemic spellcasters were unable to duplicate the helm, but they were able to create a nonmagical helm. With this the wemics outfitted a ship and began the diffacult journey to the area outside of the crystal sphere. Once outside the shell the wemics made contact with the Acrane and purchased several nonmagical helms, a number of minor helms, and a few major helms. After returning to their homeworld they wemic nations started building several new designs of ships to further explore the interior of the Black Phlosgiston.
