Details Tutorial

Short and simple, everyone wants more detail in thier images. You could add big texture files and or detailed modeling , but I have found an easier way.

This idea/ideas will add tremendious details to your models AND can be used by any software.

Heres the idea.

Most of us , cut out windows in the ships we make. We do so by making a 'window shape' tool and then subtract this cutout tool from the hull shape . Lets start out with a simple bridge section of our model. This is made by taking a circle or ball shape and subtracting a square from it , then flating it out a bit. No skill required here. Use polar UV projection and add a hull texture. See the image to the right. howto

howto howto I surfed the net and found some simple pictures of rooms

Make a window shape, I use a square , paint it with the same hull textures as before , but then paint one side of it with the room picture . See image to the right . Next , rotate the square so the image painted side is closest to the hull model. Reduce the size of the square howto

Looking from perspective view prior to shrinking the window cutting tool.

Position the cut out tool and use the object subtract control. howto

Make copies of the cut out tool and rotate them as required to fit the shape of the hull.

I glue all the cut out tools together and make one cut(with the subtraction tool) It then looks like this . howto

I used this technique on this model .

If you have trouble doing this , another idea which works the same way . You cut out your window shapes with a cut out tool . Then make a plane / flat plate . Paint it with the room image . Then rotate the plan and shrink it . Place it in the area you cut out for a window. Glue it in place . It looks the same, and you can do this to existing models as an add on.

But in eighter case , this will add a sense of " I can see inside the ship effect" This make the model more realistic looking.
