The Cyberpapacy is mainly located in France, slightly extending beyond its borders into the Atlantic Ocean. The Cyberpapacy has also gained ground in French Canadian Quebec, even extending down into New England.

About the Cyberpapacy

The Cyberpapal is an odd combination of spirituality, technology and magic. At its heart is a pseudo-Christian medieval theocracy run by Jean Malreaux, with inquisition, witch trials, and all the other trappings. Malreaux was given a view of the cyber-world of Mara, and his Darkness Device, Ebenscrux, incorporated that vision into the realm. Now, the realm is an strange mix of technology and religion. Also present is a virtual reality/pocket cosm called the GodNet.

Jean Malreaux is at the top of the religous hierarchy and uses his spiritual influence along with control of the cyberware industry to manipulate his reality and its inhabitants.

The Cyberpapcy's magic axiom supports significant magic. However, magic is prohibited by the religion of the land, and uses demonic influences to gain strength.

Even though there is a high-tech society filled with cyberware and computers, the base social axiom still represents the medieval-style hierarchical rule which exists. The Church holds supreme power in the realm, but its backward rule keeps it from taking best advantage of the technology which has been thrust upon it.

The Spirit axiom is the strength of the Cyberpapacy. Within its bounds, the Cyberpapl God is powerful to the point of near exclusion of other religions. The disciples of the CyberChurch can call the wrath of their god to smite enemies in his name, using an array of offensive miracles.

The technology axiom sets the Cyberpapacy apart. Higher than Core Earth's, it allows the realm to make use of cyberware, advanced computers, virtual relaity, and superior weaponry. The Church is still largely uncomfortable with this technology, and uses miracles and spirituality first and technology as a second option.

Cyberpapal World Laws

The Law of the One True God

Within the Cyberpapacy, the belief that there is only one god is the rule, rather than just rhetoric. Members of other religions find it difficult to call on miracles. The difficulty is increased based on the dissimilarity of the religion from the Cyberpapal doctrine.

Law of Heretic Magic

Magic is the tool of the devil. This has a couple of tangible effects. Magic is more difficult to use in the Cyberpapacy, but when it is successful it has a more powerful effect, presumable due to diabolic aid. Failed spells can result in the appearance of demons to attack the caster.

Law of Ordeal

Trial by ordeal is the law, and it actualy works. Accused criminals can be given Ordeal by Fire, by Boiling Water, by Combat, or by Cold Water. In all cases, the innocent are more likely (although not assured) to pass the ordeals.

Law of Suspicion

People in the Cyberpapacy are inherently suspicious of people they don't know. This makes them harder to persuade and charm, but easier to intimidate and taunt.
