The Day After

Written by General Celes

Part One: The World Has Fallen

Celes could feel terrible pain spreading through out her body, Celes tried to move her head, but only succeeded in awakening a sharp pain in her skull. She could remember the statues moving, the earth shaking, the cries of the planet, and everything went black………… All she could remember was that the world has fallen

Part Two: The Awakening

Celes found herself in pitch black darkness. Nothing to see. Nothing to touch. Nothing…. "where am I??" she silently said, almost in a whisper. "Is anyone here??" she yelled. The echoing of the words hurt her ears for a few moments until it sound finally stopped. "Anyone?? Someone please! Is anyone here!?!?" she shouted as tears flowed down her face, "Where are you all?". A vision of the earth being torn apart filled her mind, and pain filled her heart. "This can’t be happening..." she thought to herself, "Locke can’t be gone.. ". "Where is everyone!?!" she yelled. "Answer me!" she screamed. Celes took a moment to think about her life. The destruction. The hate. The pain. The death. Everything. She looked up and sighed. "Oh Locke, you cant be really gone. There is some much I wanted to tell you. You cant be dead, I haven’t told you that .. i.. that, I love you yet. I will find you, I swear it. I must tell you how I feel.." Celes looked down as she thought of the man who had taken everything from her in a flash. Her face was silent as more tears rolled down her face. Just then she heard a familiar laughter, someone she knew, someone she hated. Celes looked up only to see that man. The man that had taken everything, Kefka, Walking out of the shadows, laughing. "What are you doing here!?!?" she yelled at him, grasping on to her sword, "I’m warning you…..". Kefka continued to laugh as he approached Celes, also drawing a sword. Nearer, and nearer he came to her, as Celes kept yelling for him to stay back. Finally he reached her and clenched his hands around her neck, choking her, and pulled her body up as if he were hanging her . Celes dropped her sword and tried pulling Kefka’s hands off her, only making her breath shorter. Struggling for air, her life being taken from her. Celes screamed as her body was dropped to the cold floor. Her limp, lifeless body laid there, Celes became paralyzed as soon as her body hit the floor. She couldn’t move, all she could do was see, and hear. All that Celes saw and heard was the taunting laughter and the evil grin of Kefka looking down at her. A single tear rolled down her face and Celes woke up…………

Part Three: The Solitary Island

"At last…….Celes!"
"huh??….."
"At last Celes!"
Celes opened her eyes and looked up a the familiar voice calling her name, it was Cid.
"Where am I??…. I feel like I’ve been ……..sleeping forever…." Celes said quietly to Cid.
"One year to be exact." He replied. " I thought that you were gone for good a while there" .
"A whole year….. you’ve watched over me the whole time?" She asked him.
"Yes, and I am about out of energy. When the world crumbled, I awoke to find us here with a few strangers. I cant believe that this isn’t just some strange drea-.."
"The World! It wasn’t just some wongo dream!?! HE actually destroyed the world!? No way!" she interrupted him, " … MY FRIENDS! Where are my friends?? Where’s Locke!?"
"I don't know. I only know we're here... Maybe we're the only people left alive... Since that day, the world's continued to slide into ruin. Animals and plants are dying... The few others who washed up here with us passed away of boredom and despair." Cid explained to her.
"My friends...they're probably all gone..." Celes said in a voice filled with sorrow.
She looked up at Cid, the tears were building in her eyes.
"Celes...you're the closest thing to family I have... we could just live out our lives here peacefully..." Cid told her.
"I suppose so, Cid... Or should I say, Granddad?! May I call you that?" her voice sounded like she was a bit cheered up.
"Gramps, eh? I'm overwhelmed! All of a sudden I have a granddaughter! *Cough*... *Wheeze*..."
"My long-lost Granddad..." she said to herself, just loud enough for Cid to hear.
"Ha, ha...*hack*...*cough*!" Cid said warily.
"Hey, are you hungry?" Celes said looking at Cid.
"I...haven't eaten in three or so days, ever since I became ill." He replied.
"What would you like?"
" Well, unless I ask for fish, I won't get anything! That's all there is here!"
"I'll go catch some."
Celes walked out of the small cabin that had been her home for the past year, and headed towards a deserted beach.
"I cant believe an entire year has gone by since… that day.." she thought walking toward the edge of the shore. "I cant believe that my friends are all gone… they just cant be.."
Celes started to look at the fish, there was one fast moving fish, one slow one, and the other seemed to be swimming at a rate somewhere in between.
"What Cid said… could we really be the only ones left? Will humanity really end like this?… there just has to be more people somewhere out in the world.." Celes picked up the regular fish.
" But.. what about Kefka? Could he have possibly survive the destruction of the world? But… I did, so there is a possibility.."
having thought about that Celes accidentally caught the rotten fish not noticing.
" I think it best I just don’t think about that for awhile.."
she picked up the fast fish and headed back to the cabin.
"Granddad, here’s a fish." She gave Cid a small plate of fish and watched him eat it.
When he was almost done he paused for a moment and looked up at Celes.
"Celes… *cough*… I know that I’m not long for this cruel newworld….*wheeze*"
"Granddad.. please.. don’t talk like that. Know that your going to live a very long full life-.." she was interrupted once again by Cid.
"Celes, I cant stand the thought of you alone one this wretched island….*hack*…. If something should happen to me, there is a project that I am working on in the basement. It just might save you when I’m gone…. *cough*…*wheeze*…"
"I understand but Granddad… please… don’t speak like that.." Celes looked down at Cid, who suddenly started coughing furiously, then stopped.
"Granddad.. you have to eat, or else.." Celes said in a very concerned tone. She looked at Cid once more, his eyes were rolled into the back of his skull, his face was pale, and he wasn’t breathing.
"Cid…. CID! Oh Cid, tell me this is just a joke! You can’t leave me, we are a supposed to live here together peacefully.. forever, you can’t leave me alone here! Oh Cid, please wake up! " Celes shouted in a panic. Waiting for a response, she finally knew that this wasn’t a joke.
Cid was really gone…..
Devastated, Celes ran out of the cabin with tears streaming down her face. She ran, and ran until she couldn’t run anymore, and she found herself standing by an injured dove at the top of the cliff on the hill she was at. She looked up at this beautiful, brilliantly colored, sunset and thought about Cid. Some where in the back of her mind, she could hear the voice of Cid telling her; "Those others that were here, when ever they were feeling blue, they’d take a leap-of-faith off these cliffs. Perked ‘em up right!".
"There all gone……even Locke who promised he’d watch over me…."
She looked down at the earth below her, the jagged rocks along the water of the ocean, the waves drifting towards the beach. "The world is slowly ebbing away….everything’s gone…"
Celes looked up, then took one last look down at what her fate could be.
She closed her crying eyes, and felt the wind blow across her tear stricken face, and took the leap of faith.

Part Four: The Day After

Celes awoke on a small beach, her body being burned by the heat of the sun. She pushed herself up, and cringed a little at a small pain in her side. By her, she saw the injured dove by her now restored to full health.
"Hey! Why’d you do that! Why did you nurse me back to health!? I’ve never done anything for you!" she shouted at the bird, "Had it ever occurred to you that maybe I WANT to die? I don’t want to live alone in the-" She stopped yelling for a minute and notice that the bird had a blue bandanna tied around it’s wing.
"Hey! Where’d you get that!" She asked, then realized that she was talking to a bird. Feeling a bit stupid, she untied the bandanna off the bird’s wing and examined it.
"This bandanna… its familiar…." The Celes remembered that it was Locke’s bandanna…
"He’s alive… He’s still alive!" She exclaimed. "If Locke’s still alive…. Maybe, just maybe the others are too. Either way, I have to find out…" Celes said to herself, remembering about the project Cid had told her about yesterday.
Celes ran back to the cabin and noticed a letter left on the floor where Cid’s dead body lay…. Celes picked up the letter, it read;

"Celes, I know your going to live, but in order to do that you must leave this horrible island. There is a surprise in the basement. It is what’s been keeping me going this past year. Now, hurry up! The others are surely waiting for you! Love, Granddad."

"Cid….." Celes whispered to herself. She shut her eyes and then proceeded to the basement. There, she found a small wooden raft. "Thank you granddad….".
Then Celes pulled the raft out of the basement, and dragged it to the sore of the beach. Once Celes got there, She closed her eyes and said a small prayer forCid,
"Cid, you lived a long life, you were like a father to me. It is with great sorrow the I must bid a farewell to you today. There was still so much I wanted to tell, that I wanted to tell everyone. Cid, no matter where you are now, you will be in my heart always. And no matter what the past was, and what ever the future holds, I’ll still make you proud of me, Granddad….now, good bye and good luck, I promise we will meet again- some day"

Celes stood there for a few more brief moments, then got on the raft and headed out on her search for friends…………………………
