Chapter 5: The Morbol Plague Part 2: The Escape

"What the hell?" was the first thing to come to Meliadoul's mind. The entire town was infested with the green tentacled monsters named Morbols. Their mouths were full of sharp jagged teeth and their tongues rolled sickiningly around and about. They looked hungry, and they didn't appear to be vegetarians.
"Help..." said a weak voice from Meliadoul's door. She swung around and grabbed her Chaos Blade, as she slowly opened the door, a person stumbled in. Taken aback, Meliadoul became even more surprised at the person's appearance.

The person was humanoid, but didn't appear all that human. Tentacles grew out of where its arms should have been, and other features such as putrid green skin and sharper than normal teeth were found on this creature.

"Help..." called the humanoid again in pain, "Stop it... stop the hurting..."

Meliadoul then started feeling remorse toward the creature, "What's wrong?"

"P-p-plague..." spoke the creature, "H-h-hurts..."

The humanoid then fell to the ground as it started forming a puddle of slime around it's body. Meliadoul stepped back through the door and into the hallway to see slime cover the hallways.

A figure could be made out fighting off monsters in the distance of the hallway. it fought with a spear in hand as it slowly retreated into Meliadoul's direction. It was Carmen.

"What's going on!?" cried out Meliadoul to Carmen.

"No time!" spoke Carmen as she used her spear to crack a hole through the roof of the hallway, "Just hold on!"

Meliadoul was then grabbed by Carmen as the two were propelled by Carmen's Jump skill. Finding themselves on top of the Inn, Carmen quickly grabbed Meliadoul again and jumped from building top to building top until they were away from the bloodthirsty morbols.

When safely away, Meliadoul took Carmen by the collar.

"TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!" Meliadoul yelled in anger and frustration.

"Alright," calmly spoke Carmen as she caught her breath, "You remember how Ivana was thrown up on by that Great Morbol?"

"Yeah?" Meliadoul answered.

"Well, you also remember how Ivana went on a kissing spree in the Inn?" Carmen continued.

"So?" Meliadoul responded still angry.

"That puke the Great Morbol spilled on her was the Morbol Virus." Carmen finally explained, "And Ivana's kissing seems to have spread it."

Things started making sense to Meliadoul, "Then how are we not affected?"

"I'm not sure." Carmen replied, "Better constitution, or maybe it was because she didn't kiss us."

"That would make some sense," thought over Meliadoul, "But what about the others?"

"Beowulf and Reis got out alright." Carmen assured Meliadoul, but..... everyone else is contaminated."

Meliadoul looked over the scenery, the sun was barely over the horizon as the images of windmills and grassy fields were in sight. It would've been beautiful if not for the current predicament.

"Don't you find it odd?" Carmen started as she began dangling her feet over the rooftop they were on.

"What do you mean?" Meliadoul asked.

"That the Morbol Plague can spread so easily?" Carmen continued.

"So?" Meliadoul said, "It's a virus. Your point?"

"That's the thing." Carmen answered, "Morbol Plagues can only be spread by Great Morbols, and usually near people with monster skills. My point is, that something must have made the plague more transmitable so that it could turn a whole town into Morbols!"

It became obvious to Meliadoul, so obvious, that she kicked herself for not realizing sooner.

"So where do we go now?" sighed Meliadoul.

"Horror." Carmen responded, "I know a priest who lives down near there, he specializes in lifting curses and such like this."

"Horror." pondered Meliadoul thinking of Ramza, "Will he be there."

"Oh." started Carmen again, "The radiation from the dungeon probably kept me from being affected too."

"Then how did I not get infected?" worried Meliadoul as she walked off with Carmen toward the Southeastern continent.
