Where'd I come from?
Beowulf knew he was an orphan from the first get-go. He knew his mother died when he was 2 and his father was lost during the fifty year war. He dwelled on the fact that his only means of support was a kindly old Lionel Priest named Phillipe Kadmus, for which he got his name. He remembered his mother's maiden name was Gustavia. Is his name Beowulf Gustavia of the plain and humble twit named Beowulf Kadmus? Reis knew him as Kadmus but she never seen that side of him. Many guess he grew up simple, like they have. In fact it was because of his tough maverick ways, he got into the Temple Knights and took command when Kadmus died. Beowulf Gustavia? That name was not right. It sounded too familiar... Where has he heard that name before beside his dead mother? (I guess I have a fetish for the name 'Gustav' I have four characters with that name...^_^)
Beowulf went to Lionel Church for support. He went to Draclau for guidance and he went to
Gelwan for money. They're dead... Draclau by Ramza... Gelwan by Delita. Beowulf looked up to
Marge Funeral for commands and Simon for fatherly advice. Dead... Gustavia...
He knew it
was hopeless going to the Hall of Names in Lesalia, he's hated there when he broke the mayor's
arm after a bar brawl. What if he asked the Hall of Knights in Zeltennia? He was in line to
become the Mana Knight... (Don't ask, be in one of my Advanced Dungeons and Dragons game
for that one, because Beowulf's a level 17 Mana Knight God level) Until Buremonda popped that
bubble... Gustavia....
Beowulf was in a fix. So where did Gustavia come from? Then it
dawned on him. He saw the same name on the Orlandu Crest in Zeltennia. Then he knew his
destination was clear...
It took him a week on chocobo back. He saw the Orlandu Castle, just as tall as Camelot from the
stories that Kadmus told him every time he'd visit. He went to the gates where he heard Orlandu
talking to an official of Delita's court. It sounded like a heated arguement. Then a flash of
lightning and the guy smoking out of there, he noticed Orlandu holding his bleeding side. That
official was sent to kill him! A member of the Hall of Knights, Orlandu knew too much about the
show Delita was running.
"Cid!" The Temple (Mana) Knight yelled, running to him with an
X-Potion.
"No need to. I'm fine. But the Knighthood... Delita's going to attack the Grand
Hall in Limberry!"
"The Knights of Justice are in Limberry?"
"Yes..." "Why aren't you
with them?"
"Because, they're training their Sword Spirit Knight there... a young lad named
Sephiroth."
"Let's treat that wound. I got some questions."
Orlandu talked about the Knights as Beowulf stitched up the gapping dagger wound. Being the
Holy Swordsman and the best the Knighthood has to offer, Orlandu also couldn't be present to
train the newcomers.
"That feels better..." Orlandu said, sitting up.
"I got one question.
Who's Gustavia?"
"Huh?"
"I want to know."
"Marian Gustavia, my first wife... I
lost her to the plague. She bore me a child..." Orlandu said, shaking his head. "I thought he went
too..."
"..."
"I got the letter at my post that Marian died but she had a child two years
prior. I never got the notice... That's why I got there too late... Why do you ask?"
Beowulf
gave an evil eye.
"My mother's name was Gustavia..." He said, standing up and walking to
the door. "So I guess that makes me your son."
"Beowulf..." "Don't worry, I won't tell Olan."
He walked out.
Orlandu ran after him but soon found that the villagers were out getting
supplies for winter. He couldn't find the Temple Knight anywhere.
