Analdin walks down the street, from the general direction of the University. With long, measured strides he makes his way towards the gate where a couple of the Guard are on patroll in the direction he just came from.
Sanos drowsly walks in rank as he is getting used to his first steps in the Guard as he faintly hears foot steps. Cautiously he turns and peers into the darkness.
His strides out of step with those marching, the Lieutenant falls in beside them, one young man in particular. After a few silent moments of watching, his armor glinting in the light of the moon, he says in a quiet voice to the man beside him, "I wouldn't fall asleep here if I were you, soldier. The ground isn't all to comfortable to fall on."
Sanos nods upwards to the Lt's commands and a second wind passes his face as it lights up against the moon. "Oh...sorry Sir. That was very foolish of me." He finishes yawning.
Analdin's eyes light up with a twinkle, and a soft smile touches his face, "And how late have you been in the tavern these past few nights, Sanos?" Removing his helm, a lock of blonde hair falls into his eyes, causing him to wipre it away again before looking inquiringly at the young man for an answer.
Sanos looks up towards the moonlit sky and a stern look comes about in thought followed by a light smile "Well Sir....Not much in the Tavern..really, but I guees I need to get used to these new hours."
Analdin nods slowly, "Aye, new hours do need getting used to. Don' worry, though..." he trails off, blue eyes shining bright under the moon, yet that's obviously not the only cause of the twinkle in his eyes as he walks slowly beside the soldier, "You shant be stuck with these hours all too long. We rotate every month."
Sanos looks brightly into Analdin's eyes and replies "Yes...I need much getting used to the hours but rotation monthly sounds good!" ending with a quiet laugh. "How is the training in the Guard? Is it also monthly?"
After a moment of though, Analdin shakes his head, "No.. Not monthly. We train as often as we can, in as much free time as we have." Any smile on his face before seems to have vanished, though he still walks out of step, "When you are not asleep, eating, on duty, or doing anything else of importance, you can usually find someone willing to train with you."
Sanos smiles and motions holding a sword and practicing with it. "Oh..sorry Sir. I need to cut down on eating and sleeping if you know what I mean." He returns with a grin. "Who is open for training Sir?"
Analdin chuckles lightly, "No... eat and sleep as much as you need, soldier. My men are the best in the Guard, probably because they eat their fill and get good rest." Sobering, he adds, placing a hand on Sanos's shoulder, "Anyone is open for training, Sanos. At least, at your level. You can find me down there often, and I would be glad to give you some tips, but for right now, just find whoever is willing and has been with us a bit longer than yourself."
Sanos nods and a moment of silence rings through the air. Breaking it Sanos replies "Yes I will keep in shape and sleep well." His face turns to the same childish smile you saw a few weeks ago. "This is really wonderful Lt. I am glad I have joined the Guard." He ends with a tiny laugh.
Analdin's solemn face breaks, and he shakes his head, causing loose hair to fall into his eyes. Were it not for the rank insignia on his shoulder, and other signs, he would have blended in all too well with his men for his young age. Grinning rather boyishly, he says, "I cartainly am glad you appriciate your choice. 'Tis not something one would like to make a mistake about."
Sanos nods and his smile broadens "Yes..I am sure this is for me Sir! The Guard was no mistake for me Sir. I feel it is my destiny to be here and it feels great I must say." Trailing off with a slight whisper "What are your feelings on the Guard Sir?..if I may ask."
Analdin lapses into a few moments of thoughtful silence, his eyes intent on the full moon above, "My feelings on the Guard?" he asks, his voice falling to an evern quieter tone, "Sanos..." he begins, "You may very well ask. But the question is, can I answer? My feelings for the Guard are completly indescribable. Right now, one of my men abd his father are battleing over whether he will be allowed to remain or not. This sort of thing, that a man such as this father can not understand the pull to defend one's country is almost unthinkable to me." he again lapses into silence with a heavy sigh.
Sanos follows Analdin's eyes thoughtfully and soaks up every word with thought and concern. "Wow, what a mess. That is why I escaped my father, to live by my own mind and not his barbed, brainwashing thoughts. I can't imagine being ripped away from something you love so much, and the meaning, I mean it has to be horrible!." Sanos trails off mumbling the last words and a deep look of thought comes over his face.
Analdin emits another small sigh, shaking his head slowly, a sad look upon his face. After a few moments of silence on his part, however, the look turns from sad to hard anger, "'Tis the nobility that are causing this problem, friend. Seeking to take from me my second." Making a small sound of disgust, he adds, "Not that all is their fault, mind you. Just the poisoning of the thoughts of patriotic young men."
The sun slowly rises in the sky, spreading its brilliant light upon Gondor.
Sanos nods in agreement and a sterner look apears on his face "Yes, I know how some fathers like that work, and for our impressionable minds to be tampard with and poisined is horrible. They should be ashamed and disgusted with their actions but they are blind. If I could have a word with that soldiers Father without being cast down and insulted I would." He trails with a sigh and nod of confusion.
Analdin's silence lasts a moment longer, then the hard look disapears from his face, it having returned to its normal, calm, unreadableness. Except for a glacier hard look in his eyes, "His father's a nobleman. Wouldn't listen to a word you'd say, hardly listens to his own son, or myself." Shaking his head, he adds, laying a hand on the younger man's shoulder, "No, concern yourself not with such problems. Just focus on that which you need to do."
Sanos nods and his face becomes more flush and calm "Yes Sir, I need to calm down. I am powerless against those type, tis better off to leave their personal death in my imagination. Well Sir, I appreciate these words of advice, they are helping greatly, and this conversation is very interesting."
Analdin chuckles, though no humor is heard in his light voice, "Glad you can use the advice, Sanos. At least, glad you are willing to listen to it." Glancing up at the slow dawn outside the city walls, he says, "I have work I must attend to now... actually, work I should have taken care already. Get back to what you were doing, and I shall talk to you later."
Sanos nods and waves slightly "Good Bye Sir, and thanks again. May we meet later."
Sanos returnes to work and concentrates once more on getting in step and the wonderful work of the Guard
A frown turns down the corners of Analdin's mouth as he says quietly, "A moment, Sanos. I consider myself a leneint man, and am considered the easiest of commanders we have in the Guard. Yet..." he pauses a second, looking into Sanos's eyes, "I must require some respect from my leniency. Something in the form of a salute would be much appriciated." His toner conveys, however, that it is not simply a request.
Sanos turns quickly and blushes brightly "Oh Sir, I am quite sorry, please forgive my novicness!" With that Sanos draws a salute and steps back to his duties.
Analdin's frown fades to be replaced with an approving look. Sketching
a salute in return, lazily bringing his arm up and diagonally across his
chest, he nods, "You'll learn, soldier. Good day." With that, he walks
off down the street, and exits through the door into the main gatehouse.
