Christophe LeBoulange seemed, at first glance, an entirely unremarkable French citizen. This fact made him perfectly suited for his job - working in covert operations for the French government.
Born in Paris, Christophe grew up in the age of a gradually unifying Europe. His studies in his primary education, then later through collegiate studies, were focused on politics, 20th century events, and economics. He developed a deep sense of pride in the accomplishments of his country and its European bretheren. He became interested in the economic possibilities of the European Economic Community as a world industrial power, and did his thesis work on the vast potential of a unified Europe.
By the 1980's, Christophe had gained employment at a law firm specializing in international business. Although he worked at a relatively minor post in the firm, he felt great pride in aiding the European community toward solidarity and economic growth. It was during this time that a remarkable event occurred which changed the course of his life. One afternoon, Christophe sat, alone, in a cafe, enjoying a quiet lunch. Unexpectedly, a man sat down at the table across from him. The person said that he worked for French interests, and was interested in providing Christophe with an opportunity to serve his country. His nationalistic tendencies aroused, Christophe agreed. He took a leave of absence from his current job and went to be indoctrinated into French covert operations..
It turned out that Christophe was well-suited for the work. He blended in well, was unremarkable in every way, but had a keen mind and an eye for details. He retured to his former employer after a few months and used its international connections to gain information for the French government.
His life was turned upside down on the day that the maelstrom landed. The government was sent in turmoil by the ridiculous CyberPope posing before the crowds. Even worse, he saw that the invaders had once again fragmented Europe into feuding factions, destroying the possibility of the unification which he had been working toward for years. Furious, he tried to find reason behind the madness, but most people around him seemed to fall into step with the dogma being spouted. He distanced himself from the religous zealots who surrounded him and went into Paris looking for answers. Through contacts, he learned of Operation: Central Fire being launched by the German army. Although the idea of German military on French soil sickened him, he saw this as an opportunity to take a positive step. He made his way into Germany and offered his knowledge for use in the attack.
During the invasion, Christophe found himself on the wrong end of an explosion in a GWI arms factory. He awoke two days later under the care of a French hospital, run by the clergy by the look of those walking around. Looking at himself, he saw that his right arm had been replaced by a strange metallic prosthetic. Soon, he realized that an eye had also been replaced. He had no idea why the French clergy would bring him back to health at large expense. No idea, that is, until a preist one day came into his room, took a small microchip out of his robes, and put it in a slot in Christophe's neck which he didn't even know was there.
The next few weeks were just a hazy dream for Christophe. He found himself going to worship at CyberChurch, and giving information to priests who asked detailed questions about Central Fire. Once the priests determined the nature of Christophe's skills, they sent him on a new mission... retaliation. Christophe was sent into Germany to assassinate their president.
After three weeks of inquiries, scouting, and plotting, Christophe had found the perfect location to perform the hit. He waited in the branches of a tree, anticipating the president's appearance as he prepared to speak to a group of activists in a park. As the president walked to the podium, Christophe raised his Godlight and focused his targeting systems until he was sure the shot would be fatal. As he was about to fire, images began to flash though his mind... his upbringing in Paris... his years in college... his work in finance, then in covert operations... finally, his outrage at the invaders. He felt a searing pain in his neck as the Faith chip burned out and melted into the chipslot. The sudden surge of emotions combined with the pain of the chip holder sent him spinning into unconsciousness.
When he awoke, the flame of his hatred for the Cyberpapacy was focused to a burn. He returned to France, killing several guards along the way. He went to Paris and joined the French resistance and has fought the invaders around the world, for the glory of Europe and the redemption of the Earth!
