The Crimson Avenger was the first masked crimefighter of the 1930s.  As a result of the Law’s Legionnaires’ battle with the monstrous Nebula-Man, during which Wing died, the Crimson Avenger was hurled back through time to ancient Mexico. He was finally rescued by members of the Justice League and Justice Society, who returned him to a point in the 20th century decades after the point he had left.
Travis retired as the Crimson Avenger and eventually discovered that he was dying of an incurable desease, though he went into action as the Crimson Avenger one last time when a boat carrying volatile cargo was hijacked, threatening New York City’s safety. Defeating the gang that had hijacked the ship, the Crimson Avenger steered the burning vessel out of New York’s harbor into open water, sacrificing his own life to save the people of his city.
