| The Chief was a young scientist who was known for his brilliance. When he
was approached by an old man to work on a formula for immortality, he accepted and worked
diligently, succeeding. Along the way, though, he found out that the old man was General
Immortus, an evil mastermind. Niles Caulder risked life and limb to prevent Immortus from
getting the drug, taking it himself only moments after becoming paralyzed from the waist
down. He disappeared for a time after that, resurfacing for the first time to put together
the rag-tag team known as the Doom Patrol. They went through a lot together but, in the
long run were thought to be destroyed in an explosion. Everyone but Elasti-Girl
survived. The Chief disappeared until much later, letting everyone believe he was dead. He
then formed the third version of the Doom Patrol and went on even stranger adventures. It
has since been revealed that all the oddities that occured to the original Doom Patrol
were planned by him as an experiment. |
