Green Arrow I

Green Arrow was a millionaire playboy who never worked a day in his debauched life. One night, while aboard his yacht for a pleasure cruise, he fell overboard and barely managed to swim to the shore of a small deserted island. He fashioned a crude bow and arrow and used this to survive. Becoming skilled with it, he managed to capture a group of drug runners when they landed to harvest their crops. He took them to shore and left them to the police, prepared to return to his old lifestyle. Their colorful descriptions of him, however, led to him going to a costume ball dressed in a more appropriate outfit. Foiling a crime there while in costume, he realized he enjoyed the life and started calling himself Green Arrow. An original free spirit, he fought crime for years, often allying himself with Black Canary or Speedy, his protege. As the years went by, though, he got less fun loving and more radical, the ultimate change occuring when Black Canary was raped and he killed for the first time. He died sacrificing himself to stop Metropolis from being chemically bombed. He was a hero to the end.   And then he was brought back by the second Spectre.
