Jonah Hex was struck by lightning at an early age, disfiguring his face and making him have to stand up for himself. He was part of the Confederate army during the Civil War, becoming a bounty hunter later. He was acknowledged as one of the best bounty hunters in the west, which is part of what caused him to be drawn thousands of years in the future as entertainment for a post- apocalyptic warlord. He escaped and waged rebellion for a while before going back to the past.
