Story: Sent by the Black Dragon organization to get Kano back from the FBI who had reportedly captured him, Kabal set out, armed with his strange swords, to get Kano back at all costs. Even after the portal opens, he continued to search for the missing Black Dragon member.
Then Kahn began to strip the Earth of all life. Kabal ignored the fact that he still lived, and continued the search for Kano. But then, he was attacked.
After Kahn's initial invasion, the dark emperor realized that the Elder Gods had selected Humans, the Chosen Warriors, to defend their realm in a new Mortal Kombat. His general, Motaro the Centurian, was sent with a group of savage warriors to find and exterminate the surviving humans.
Kabal was attacked by Motaro and his extermination squads. He faced off with Motaro himself, but the Centurian was too much for him. Motaro deeply scarred Kabal, and left the pitiful carcass for dead, moving on to the next area with his extermination squads.
Kabal awoke to find himself in pieces. He managed to drag himself to a medical facility, and found a portable respirator. He put it on, stitched himself together, and set out with a new purpose: destroy the force that did this to him.

Kabal met the renegade princess Kitana of the Outworld. After she convinced him that they were allies, he left with her to find Shao Kahn and end his menace once and for all. Kabal followed Kitana to the palace and helped topple Kahn's tyranny from its unholy throne.
In the final destruction of the Portal, Kabal remained inside the fortress, looking for the Centurian warriors who scarred him. Although he was believed to be killed, rumor has it that he was seen walking away from the explosion, with his mask in his hand.
