Kitana

Several milennia ago, Shao Kahn took over the world of Edenia, ruled over by King Jerrod and Queen Sindel, their daughter was Princess Kitana. Kahn killed Jerrod and took Sindel as his queen, holding Kitana as ransom. Sindel went mad and killed herself. Kahn captured the queen's soul and kept it as a reminder to Kitana of where she stood. To further ensure her loyalty, a demonic clone named Mileena was created who portrayed as her twin sister.

Along with many Edenian children, Kitana was trained as an assassin for Kahn. She quickly mastered the art of throwing fans. Through her occupation she managed to, piece by piece, rebuild her history, as well as Edenia's. Still with this information, her logic told her to feign loyalty to Kahn, as she had hardly the resources to contest his power.

When the Outworld tournament began, Kitana entered the tournament in hopes of finally toppling Kahn, but feigned allegiance by pledging to destroy the Inworld pigs. She was seen conversing with Liu Kang before the tournament began, and was immediately suspected of ulterior motives. Mileena entered the tournament to keep an eye on her.

The tournament was fulfilled uneventfully, but it didn't matter, Kahn's larger scheme was still quite intact. He had given Sindel's soul to Shinnok and had made a bargain with him that had Shinnok taint Sindel's soul with evil. He finally finished his unholy task in 1995.

Shang Tsung, the head of Kahn's Shadow Priests, resurrected Sindel on the Earth Realm, and Kahn was finally able to reclaim his queen, thus taking the Earth Realm as his own. It was at this time that Mileena acquired the information she needed to convict Kitana of treason. Kitana saw that this information put a price on her head, and took Mileena's from her.

Kahn immediately used the situation to his advantage. The evidence put forth was so concrete that the High Courts of the Outworld convicted Kitana of treason anyway. She did the only thing she could; she ran.

Kahn sent a contingent of warriors specifically to capture her. Jade and Reptile began to hunt her. Kitana, realizing how dangerous these two could be together, made plans to escape to the Mother Realm. She had to find Sindel, who she knew to be the true queen, and inform her of the truth: that she was actually Kahn's arch-enemy.

When she finally confronted Jade and Reptile, Kitana managed to convince Jade that bigger things were at work, they attacked Reptile, and left to assist Liu Kang in Shao Kahn's downfall. On their way, they met Rain and informed him of his true past: that his father had been a trusted general in king Jerrod's armies and had died at Kahn's hands. He joined their ranks and together, with assistance from the Chosen Warriors, finally killed Kahn.

Kitana found Sindel and helped her regain her memory, and Sindel took her rightful place as the now reformed Edenia, with Princess Kitana at her side.

Two yars later, peace had been restored to the fair Edenia. Jade and Rain had high ranks in the armies, and they had appointed Ambassadors to different realms. The Ambassador to New Realms' daughter, Tanya, came to Sindel with a group of refugees fleeing their own, dying world. Sindel granted them sanctuary, only to find that one of these "refugees" was Shinnok himself, along with his Army of Darkness.

Quan Chi captured Kitana, in an attempt to lure Liu Kang out into the open to destroy him. Liu Kang, thinking that he failed, returned home to regroup. Meanwhile, Kitana attacked Quan Chi and escaped. She then joined forces with Rayden to battle Shinnok from the inside as he waged celestial war upon the Elder Gods.
