Story: Quite a while ago Liu Kang left his life of being a Shaolin monk to become a member of the incredibly secret organization called the White Lotus Society, of which his friends Kung Lao and Kai of America were members.
But then, in 1993, Tsung began the tenth Mortal Kombat under Kahn's rule. Kang left the White Lotus to enter the tournament representing the Shaolin monks.
On the boat to the secret isle on which the tournament was to be held, Liu Kang befriended superstar Johnny Cage after breaking up a fight between the celluloid star and a thug named Kano. The monk, who had learned long ago to throw fireballs and transform into other creatures, taught Cage the art of magic, knowing that otherwise, the star wouldn't stand a chance.
Kang defeated Goro, who disappeared into his lair, and never came out, and Shang Tsung, finally freeing the Earth from the chain of victories achieved by Kahn. He returned to his home.

Upon arriving at the Shaolin Temples of Light, he found them in utter ruin; the handiwork of the deformed demon Baraka and his kinsmen. Infuriated at Kahn's atrocity, he packed up his things and went back to the isle to enter the portal and wage war on Kahn himself.
Under the illusion that his destiny was to defeat Kahn himself, Liu Kang released a fury that did not end until Rayden shows him the facts: Shao Kahn was trying to pick off the most threatening of the Chosen Warriors which could only mean one thing: the invasion of Earth was soon to be at hand!

Liu Kang and Rayden rallied up the Earth Warriors in the Outworld and transported them safely home, warning them all of the invasion. Cage ignored this and went home, while Jax and Sonya went to warn the American government, as Sub-Zero warned the Lin Kuei and Kano the Black Dragon. Then he and Kung Lao, his fellow Shaolin monk, ventured home to pay their respects to their dead brethren.

After proper ceremonies were met, Liu Kang and Kung Lao hurried to reform the White Lotus Society, but it was too late.
Shao Kahn's queen was reborn on Earth and Kahn reached into the realm to get her, and took it as his own, as well as every soul. Every soul except those of the Chosen Warriors of Earth, chosen to defend Earth by the Elder Gods.
Kahn knew this, and sent savage extermination squads to end their menace. Together, Liu Kang and Kung Lao thwart the Outworlders and help venture towards the Fortress of Kahn in Los Angeles.

Kahn kills Kung Lao, and with his death, Liu Kang assisted in the destruction of Earth, but not before saying goodbye to Kitana of Edenia, whom he helped free from Kahn's clutches. She thanked him for not only saving the Earth, but the Outworld as well.

Two years after the Earth recovers from Kahn's invasion, Liu Kang got a message from Jade and Rain, Kitana's friends from Edenia. They said that the princess and the entire realm had been taken captive by Quan Chi and Shinnok. Liu Kang went with them to free her. Unsuccessful, he returned home to mount a counter-attack and free the woman who he realized to be the one he loved, and rescue the Elder Gods.
