Story: When Shinnok tried to take over the earth thousands of years ago, the Elder Gods banished him to the Netherealm as punishment for his crimes. Upon arrival, the fallen god was immediately tortured by creatures that he had sent to the Netherealm himself when he was a god.
Then he met Quan Chi, a sorcerer who helped Shinnok rise to power until he was the ultimate ruler of the Netherealm. With that, Shinnok tried to turn the realm into a beautiful one like Earth. But he discovered that there was nothing for him to transform. It was not just a dead realm, but non-existent. He then tried to create the illusion of beauty, and tried to transform the denizens into human-like creatures.
Noob Saibot and the Brotherhood of the Shadow were a result of Shinnok's unnatural tampering with nature. To hide their deformities, the Brotherhood took to the liking of a shadow. They dressed in black, masked themselves, and smeared their skin with coal and tar to ensure their secrecy.
Noob Saibot, being the Brotherhood's best spy, has been secretly watching Mortal Kombat since the eighth generation under Shang Tsung's control. It is rumoured that, in the ninth tournament in 1993, he poisoned Goro, weakening him, thus making it more that possible for Kang to defeat him. If this is true, it meant that Kahn still needed Shinnok's assistance, and Shinnok made sure he would.
In 1994, he watched the Outworld tournament. He struck out at those who had proven themselves time and time again, making sure that they never got close enough to harm his master. Then the invasion began.

From the Netherealm, Shinnok ordered Noob to travel to the Earth Realm and watch the battle between Earth and Kahn. He soon joined forces with Kahn under orders from the fallen god. The plan was to turn on Kahn, destroy him, and Shinnok would be able to claim both the Earth Realm and the Outworld as his own, finally giving him the power to have his revenge on the Elder Gods.
Noob failed to do as ordered, but Kahn was destroyed by the humans, so the spy returned to the Netherealm.

 

Two years later, Shinnok, equipped with his army of Darkness, waged war upon the heavens and Elder Gods from the overtaken realm of Edenia, formerly the Outworld. Noob Saibot was a general in the Army, leading hem on their unholy mission of oblivion.
