Story: When Quan Chi first assisted Shinnok to defeat his enemies and rule the Netherealm, he formed a sect, the Brotherhood of the Shadow, the make sure Shinnok stayed in the seat of power he maintained.
Several warriors joined his Brotherhood, and its companion, the Sisterhood. Kia, Sareena, Jataaka, Noob Saibot, and Reiko.
Reiko soon rose to power in the Brotherhood, nearly matching the rank and respect of Noob Saibot himself. Although the incident with Sub-Zero in 1983 involved mostly the Sisterhood of the Shadow, the Brotherhood was busy battling off Netherworld demons to protect Shinnok.
Reiko mastered the shuriken, throwing devices devised by the ninja, and led Shinnok's forces against Lucifer's armies. Shinnok's enemies were kept at bay while he worked on Sindel's soul.
Finally, in 1997, Shinnok decided to take back what was "rightfully" his.
Reiko was a general in Shinnok's Army of Darkness against the Elder Gods. Although he was thought to have been killed in that battle, he resurfaced in Edenia soon after, and began to fight off the oncoming wave of Earth warriors fighting to defend their gods.
