Story: Sindel's story has been fixed in the history of Mortal Kombat since Kahn's takeover of Edenia. Sindel was the faithful queen of Jerrod, and the High Mistress of Edenia. She gave Jerrod pleasure, as well as their daughter, Kitana.
Edenia was invaded by Shao Kahn and his Dark Armies. Kahn was ruthless and pitiless; all souls before him were taken to strengthen his own power. He finally approached the palace, slaughtered the contingent of guards, and made his demands quite clear. He would take Edenia as his own, and with it, her queen.
Sindel refused, and so Kahn eliminated Jerrod's competition. Despite her pleas for mercy, Shao Kahn killed Jerrod before her and Kitana. He then sapped the energy of Edenia, transforming it into part of the Outworld.
Sindel found her grasp on sanity quickly slipping away under Kahn's marriage to her. Sindel, wishing to ensure the continuation of the Edenian race, smuggled the child Rain out of the Outworld. She then proceeded to fling herself from the Pit.
Kahn was furious at her attempt to thwart his perverted game. He trapped Sindel's soul, to keep her from moving into a higher existence with Jerrod, as his own trophy over Edenia, and as a reminder of his power to Sindel's daughter Kitana.
Around the 1980's, Shang Tsung, the leader of Shao Kahn's Shadow Priests, ran into Quan Chi, the arch-sorcerer of Shinnok. It appeared that Shinnok was trapped in the Netherealm, and that the only way to free him was with the use of a sacred amulet, which was hidden in a temple. The location of this temple was secretive.
It also happened that Shang Tsung had sapped the soul of Kung Lao, the legendary Shaolin monk, and the monk had had knowledge of the amulet's location. Tsung promised to fashion Quan Chi with the temple's location if Shinnok were to perform a certain deed for Kahn.
Shinnok took Sindel's soul and began the process of tainting it with evil. It would take about a decade.
Meanwhile, the tenth, and most crucial, tournament under the rule of the Outworld had begun. Liu Kang defeated Goro and Shang Tsung; the furies were balanced, and Tsung was banished to the Outworld.
Then Kahn held the second tournament, lured the Chosen Warriors of Earth to the Outworld and initiated them in Mortal Kombat. They triumphed and escaped with their lives.
By now, Shinnok was almost done his work on Sindel's soul . . .
With her soul turned evil, it was only a matter of simple sorcery for Tsung to make it so that Sindel could be reincarnated on Earth.
Sindel was reborn as a Human on Earth, and this allowed Kahn to step through the dimensional gateways, and reclaim Sindel as his queen.
Before Rayden and the Elder Gods could interfere, Kahn turned Earth into a part of the Outworld itself. This transferred celestial power to Outworld gods, and thus, the Elder Gods no longer had any power, and had to watch as Earth was stripped of every living soul.
To Sindel's dismay, her daughter Kitana killed her twin, Mileena, and fled to Earth. She was named a fugitive. Sindel watched the occupation of Earth continue helplessly.

She began to receive visions. Visions of Jerrod, Kitana, and their home in Edenia. Soon, her watchful bodyguard Sheeva was distracted with matters back on the Outworld, and she was free to turn on Kahn and ally with the Earth warriors. She helped destroy Kahn once and for all.
With the return of Earth to normal, Edenia reformed as well. Sindel retook her rightful place as queen, with Kitana, Jade, and Rain at her side.
Two years later, the ambassador to new realms' daughter, Tanya, brought a group of refugees fleeing their own realm to Edenia. Sindel granted them sanctuary, only to find that one of these refugees were Shinnok himself. Shinnok took Edenia over quite quickly, and then waged war on the Elder Gods themselves . . .
