Shadowblade

Map and Layout

Description: Shadowblade is the hub of the Uprising. Located in a cavern beneath the island that Doomcloud stands watch over, this shady town provides everything the Uprising needs to sustain itself. To protect this town from the many turmoils above, there have been only two entrances constructed for entrance into the cavern. The first is through a large staircase that leads up to Doomcloud located on the west side of town. The staircase is wide enough for near legions to pass though and is protected at both ends by guard stations. The second is through an underground river that leads out into the oceans of DC located south of town. Fed from the waterfalls and lagoon in the northern and center sections of the cavern this waterway provides for the trading routes by ship. Guarded by towers and a retractable bridge this entrance is the main focus of the towns defenders. The lagoon itself is large enough to house at least three of the Uprising's war galleons to also aid its defense. It is not an uncommon sight to see at least two galleons docked at the ports on any given day. The majority of the city itself is broken into individual districts and is managed by city officials appointed from those in the Keep above. These officials are responsible for supplying the inhabitants with running water, a sewer system, light, housing and other needs as deemed fit for the people who live there. It is in Shadowblade that most of the Uprising call home and more than two thirds of the activity that goes on in the clan is done in this town. It can be what is considered the woodwork of evil and the city itself is a prime example of such.
Shadowblade

Waterworks, Shipyard, and Lotus Blossom Districts

The first of the northern districts in Shadowblade is the Waterworks, located in northernmost part of the city. This giant structure provides all of the water coming into Shadowblade. The second of the districts is the Shipyards located on the eastern edge of the cavern's lagoon. It is here that the craftsmen build and maintain the Uprising's ship fleet and where the traders pass thier goods back and forth. The last of the districts is the Lotus Blossom district located in the northeast part of town. This is the main territory for the Thieves of the Uprising and is the most dangerous section of town.
(1) Entrance to the Netherworld- A similar staircase to the one leading above to Doomcloud designed for passage into the Netherworld.
(2) The Waterworks Complex- Spanning almost to the top of the cavern this building is riddled with pipes, gears, and machinery created by the gnomish inventors of the clan to work as the main source of the cities water. It filters the marshland water from above and makes the normally intolerable liquid into something capable of drinking. Two large waterfalls are constantly streaming from this complex into the lagoon below which is the reason for Shadowblade's underground river. Beneath these waterfalls you can find a small tavern called The Thieves Den. This is the headquarters for every operation the Thieves of the Uprising carry out and is the hideout for its guild members.
(3) Lighthouse- This building was the first constructed in Shadowblade. It produces a green light for which ships use to navigate when the city itself has shut down and the lights can no longer be seen.
(4) Mercenary Guild- This building is where mercenaries traveling in the town go to find work. Run like an unemployment office the lines are always long and the office hours change. The people that run it are trained to be rude and care little more than what it takes to get the job done. There are a few training rooms for beginning mercenaries here but they are seldom used for other then places to get into a fight.
(5)Twisted Caverns- This tavern is one of two bars open to the public. Prices are competitive as long as you keep a constant eye on your marks. It is not suggested you bring large sums of money here and it is highly recommended you bring a friend for safety.
(6)Fortune Teller- With every shady part of town there is an old hag who makes a living telling fortunes.
(7)Twilight Manor- This "mansion" is essentially a bath house and massage parlor. But there other money making schemes carried out here that need not be mentioned.
(8)The Lotus Gardens- The area surrounding this district is flowered with many poisonous plants and herbs that give off sweet scents and colorful blossoms. In the center is a fountain that produces a black liquid which no one has dared touch. Stick to the path or you may find yourself the victim of something as seemingly harmless as a flower.
(9)Fortunado Casino- This is the gambling hall for Shadowblade. The interior is adorned with elegant items and the environment is that of money and riches. Unfortunately for most, they leave with the opposite as the thieves and gamblers that run it, make sure nobody wins it too big.
(10)The Dry Docks- It is in these buildings that the ships of the clan are repaired and maintained. Craftsmen spends hours at a time making sure that every sea worthy vessel of the Uprising stays in top condition.
(11)Warehouses- It is here that goods brought by ship are stored. Heavily guarded by the rich merchants who own them these places are constantly a commotion of bartering and shipping. This also the home of the Traders Guild and where fledgling traders make their start.
(12)The Pier- These are the docks for the ships that come and go in Shadowblade. It can sustain up to five large ships docked at one time.
(13)Gnomish Factory- The dwelling place of the inventors of the Uprising. It is here that every inventory item a town could need is built. When the factory is open there is always a black smoke emitting from its stacks and is loud enough to drown out almost every sound around it.
(14)Tanner- It is here that the Uprising gets its leather needs tended to. From belts to armor if it is from the hide of an animal you can find it here.

Town Center District

This is the main part of town and is where most of the day to day tasks are carried out. It is where most of the shops, inns, and important buildings can be found. It is located in the southeast part of the cavern where there is the most room. The streets and alleyways of this part of town are notorius for lurkers and the general populace generally travels in the more open areas.
(1)Sledge's Smithy- It is here that the people in Shadowblade get everything they need in the aspect of metalwork and blacksmithing.
(2)Assault and Fortify- In this store you can find everything an adventurer needs for protection and attack. It is an Armor shop and a Weapon shop combined into one.
(3)Tailor- Every article of clothing that can be thought up can be made here and it is here that most buy their clothing needs.
(4)Artemi's Potion Shop- This store is where you can find every alchemist created item. Anything from poisons and potions to elixirs.
(5)The Butcher- Shadowblade places a high demand on meat products due to the slightly demonic breeds that dwell in the town. Wholesale meat is found here.
(6)Bakery- Grain processed and shipped here are made into various goods and sold wholesale similar to the butcher.

(7)Warehouse- Another storage place for the inns and shops of the town.
(8)Stainless Bill's Restaurant- A quiet place overlooking the lagoon and waterfalls of the cavern. It has an outside terrace and if you can get past the slightly unsanitary food it is not half bad. Prices are decent as well.
(9)Imperial Hotel- This inn is the most expensive of the three in the main part of town and is usually where visiting delegates and those who can afford it stay.
(10)Dawn's Retreat Inn- This is the medium grade inn and is more of an apartment complex due to the fact that the rooms here can be rented for extended time frames.
(11)Rock Bottom Suites- The low grade rooms that are the cheapest to rent in the town. Most do not stay there for more then a day or so. Persons staying here are either just passing through, or just have nowhere else to go.
(12)Conquest Museum- In this building many of the valuable artifacts collected in the Uprising's plunders are kept. At one time this museum held the Crown of Beth herself. But due to certain circumstances it had to be returned, to the dismay of the curator. The recent crowd favorite is the "Hall of idiocy" where wax displays of DC's favorite morons are subjected to unspeakable death's, over and over again.
(13)City Hall- The main administration building of Shadowblade. It is here that the maintainers of the city needs work, and is also where any civil trials not large enough to need the attention of the Keep above are held. The Mayor of Shadowblade is usually works with the Thieves and most of the decisions made for the town are made by the Deviator. The city official's only concerns are keeping the city running at all costs and doesn't really care how it is done. Currently Mayor Durand has added a presidential suite to the top floor of the building financed through blood money.
(14)Merchant Guild- As with all cities there are those that wish to make it rich. This powerful establishment sets the rules of trade with outside factions and is the "free market" providers for the town. They work with City Hall to ensure the well being of Shadowblade and the prosperity of its value.
(15)The Marketplace- The largest indoor bazzar in the Badlands, this is where all transactions are made. People can find items not found in any of the Shadowblade shops here or they can find items normally attained from outside sources.
(16)The Cathedral- This building was created for those of the dark calling and is somewhat an extension of the Netherworld. Used as a non-partial church it houses clergy members from nearly every evil or chaotic god in existence and is only open to the public on the first day of the week.
(17)Treasury and Bank- These two buildings are the monetary controllers of the town. One is designed to be a giant safe, the other is a bank used for those that wish to store their money someplace safe. Despite the rumors these are one of the few buildings in Shadowblade not run by the Thieves and is governed by the Overlord and Overlordess themselves.
(18)Housing- Littered throughout the cavern are homes built and designed for those who live and work in Shadowblade. Permits for these homes can be attained at the City Hall. Getting one however is not easy and outsiders are never permitted to own one because space is limited.
(19)Shadowblade Square- This large open cobblestone area is considered the center of town. Traversed daily by many people it has become a social gathering place for the people of Shadowblade.

Mining and Guardian Districts

The first of these two districts is the Mining district located in the southern part of the cavern. Source of the main trade good exports of the city. The second is the Guardian district which is located at the beginning of the underground river. Both of which are key elements in the survival of Shadowblade.
(1)Refinery- Located north of the mines is the processing station of the minerals taken out of the mines. The mines themselves produce three rare minerals and of course stone. The stone is used for building material and the rare minerals are the main export of the Uprising (Besides what is gained through conquest of course). Workers in the mine range from paid volunteers to those sentenced to manual labor and is split into sections for each mineral. The criminals are given the harder more hazardous materials to mine. This region is patrolled by the Warriors of the Uprising due to the mineral value, proximity to the river, and criminal population.
(2)Quarry- This is the main storage area for the valuable export items removed from the mines. Trespassing here means on the spot execution and is also patrolled vigilantly by the Warriors.
(3)Gateway Towers- To gain access to and from the river a ship must pass the checkpoint of the towers. Those ships without the proper authority to enter are subject to being sunk or raided depending on the commanding official at the time. The checkpoint is vital to the town's defense and is under a constant surveilance. Another pride and joy of the Warrior class as they have been known to sink ships for the quoted reason, "Because we felt like it."
(4)The Bridge- Part gate and part crossing this structure plays the dual role for the town. Underneath the bridge is a large gate to keep ships from passing until given clearance and when the bridge is open land crossings are not possible. The bridge can be retracted to let ships by or prevent attackers from reaching the main section of town. It is operated from the towers and is subject also to the whim of the commanding officer at that time.

Provision Disrict

This part of town is the section designed to support the actions of the Keep above. Located next to the main entrance to the underground cavern it was designed to be a quicker way for the two Uprising areas to work together. Most of this area is simply what could not fit in the Keep or was not efficient to have above. It is still very much a part of Shadowblade and even though citizens must cross the bridge to get here they don't seem to care.
(1)Item shop- A multi-purpose shop that carries varied types of goods and is comparable to a general store.
(2)Anne's Antique shop- If you are a collector this store might be a paradise, but to most it is just a junk store and a pawn shop to repay gambling debts.
(3)Farmer's market- This store is a place to buy livestock feed and seeds for planting. It is the place that supplies the stables above and the garden keepers around the town.
(4)Art Shop- A combination of a portrait studio and an art supply store. It is here that most of the paper goods and supplies are sold along with several aspiring artist milling around.
(5)Post Office- With every town there needs to be a way to communicate with the other parts of the realm.
(6)Cartography office- It is here that navigation maps for both the land and sea forces use in their battles. Also available in this shop are maps of the realm for the common adventurer to use in getting around and navigating tools to do so with.
(7)Arcane Shallows Bookstore- This store is the only shop in town designed for those of the mage class. It has scrolls, spell books and other various items a magician might need for his travels.
(8)The Broken Arrow- Your average run of the mill pub. Slightly safer then its counterparts it is the only other bar open to the public.
(9)Grubby's- Another restaurant area where one can buy prepared food. This one is rather pricey due it being closer to Doomcloud and cleaner look.
(10)Entrance to Doomcloud- The main staircase to the Keep above.
(11)The Necrochambers- What could be considered the Uprising's hospital. It is here that those with healing abilities tend to the sick and injured of both the town and the Keep. It is however far from a caring facility and most there would rather not bother with the menial tasks that a hospital would until they are forced to. Only certain sections of the building are actually worthwhile to go to in time of need. The Necromancers are niether kind or hospitable and rumors go around that they are only there to practice and experiment with thier skills.

Spirits District

Taking advantage of the only soft soil in the cavern the citizens of Shadowblade created two very important buildings for this area. Nothing is more important to a city of evil than liquor...
(1)The Brewery- A high demand item in Shadowblade is strong alcohol. So to meet the needs of the public a place to make ale and similar drinks was constructed. It is also where some of the more potent stuff is made, such as Death Brand whiskey and Shadowblade rum.
(2)The Winery- Setting up several vineyards in the only place where things could grow this building is where the finer liquors are made. Still rather new for a winery, it's stock on older wines is limited.
(3)Silo- Simply another storage place for the Uprising used to support the Spirits and Provision districts, along with the Keep above.
