The duels here are real easy if your levels are fairly high, and if you use the right equipment. Whenever I go to the Battle Square, I arm my best fighter ( usually Cloud ) with Ultima Weapon, Escort Guard, Ribbon, Double Cut, Counter Attack, Time, Enemy Skills, HP Pluses, Mp Pluses, and a Knights of the Round summon spell linked with MP Absorb. The trick to winning the duel is not simply to win, but to get a lot of Battle points. This means taking weak handicaps early, then try getting one of the really bad ones, like All Materia Break. Once you've got enough points, you can redeem your prizes at the stand near the entrance. The only worthwile prizes are Cloud's level 4 limit break: Omnislash, and W-Summon materia. Important: Never leave the Battle Square until you really need to, because once you leave, your battle points will disappear.
Once you have Ultima Weapon, Omnislash and W-Summon, equip all three of them and you gain entrance into the Secret second duel. The enemies here are extremely hard, and the final battle pits Cloud against Proud Clod. Basically, just use the same strategy here, but if you have the Mimic materia, you can cheat real bad, and use your level 4 limit break and just mimic it every other turn. The prize for winning here is Final Attack Materia.
