Here are some tips for increasing your mind's power
and also how to raise power to cast a spell.
INCREASING YOUR MIND POWER
From Ambrosia Knight's personal Book of Shadows
The following is not a spell.
It is an exercise to help increase your mind power.
Take a glass and turn it upside down.
Place your fingers on top of the glass without any pressure (barely touch it).
With your mind (not your fingers), make the glass move forward.
Either speak this aloud or just think about it.
If it doesn't move at first, don't get frustrated.
With time and practice, it will and you'll be amazed when it happens.
Remember not to get freaked out and think it's a ghost or anything.
You are the one moving it.
After you've done this, you'll probably feel tired and drained.
This is normal. In time, the strength of your mind will build and you won't feel that way anymore.
TESTING YOUR PERSONAL POWER
From "Making Magick" by Edain McCoy
THE POWER IN YOUR PALMS TEST
The palms of your hands are natural energy centers through which
you can direct power. Hold your hands up in front of you about a
foot apart, palms facing together. Close your eyes to aid your
concentration, and focus your attention on the space between your
palms. Between them is a low energy field similar to two opposite
poles of a magnet facing each other. Like magnets, they can attract
or repel other energies depending on how you set them up to work.
With your eyes still closed, bring your hands slowly together and
begin to rub your palms vigorously against one another. Feel the
heat they create. This is heat born of energy you are creating.
Memorize the sensation.
After a minute or two, move your hands back apart. Now concentrate
on the feeling passing between them as you move them slowly toward
each other again. Can you feel their resistance to each other?
You are sensing the expansion of the energy field you have created
projecting outward from your palms. It has created a slight,
natural barrier to the energy of the other hand. Memorize the
sensation so that you can be confident when you conjure it again.
Before you quit the exercise, take your hands and place them on the
ground, mentally willing the excess energy you raised to be grounded
away from you. You should never allow unused magickal energy to
remain on you or to randomly go elsewhere. Leaving it will only
permit it to work against you, making you feel frazzled and unfocused.
In extreme cases it can cause you to feel as if you are being haunted.
THE CANDLE FLAME TEST
Light a taper candle and place it on a table or other sturdy surface
where there is absolutely no chance of encountering a draft. Do not
use a votive candle for this exercise as the glass container can
hinder your ability to affect the flame. You will also need to close
windows, turn off ceiling fans, air conditioners, and furnaces to avoid
indoor air currents.
Stand before the flame and, with eyes open, will your own energies to
merge with those of the flame. This can be visualized any way you
like. You can think of your physical body as merging with that of the
flame, or of the flame burning inside yourself, or as a blending of
your subtle energy bodies. Whatever you choose to do, consider this
fusion as a pathway to the candle that will allow you to manipulate
it without physical contact.
When you feel you have made a connection, mentally will the candle
flame to waver as if you had just used your palm or your lips to send
a small current of air its way. Try to visualize this both as a
continuous stream of energy bombarding the flame and as little bursts
of energy. One method may work better for you than imagining a hand
or your mouth sending the air, and it can also tell you which of your
chakras is most magickally developed.
Unless you are about to be declared the thirteenth wonder of the world,
don't expect the flame to tap dance for you. With practice you will
notice a slight waver of the flame in response to your will. If you
have eliminated all other sources of air currents and you succeed in
moving the flame at least half the times you try, consider your
experiment a success.
