Places in the Dragon Ball World
Here is a list and short descriptions of some of the places in the Dragon Ball World. I've tried
to make it as comprehensive as possible, and tried to put it in the order that they appear in
the series. However, if there is some major place that I have forgotten, please let me know.
Some of the names of the places here are just names that I've given to major places that
were never given names.

Paozu Mountain

Although I don't think it was ever given a name in the manga, Paozu Mountain is where Gokou
grew up with his grandfather Gohan. Bulma first met Gokou on Paozu Mountain.

Son Gohan's House

This is (old) Son Gohan's house, and is where Gokou lived until he met Bulma. It is a very
small house but is big enough for two people to live fairly comfortably in. It is on the top of
Paozu Mountain, and is far away from any nearby civilization. Son Gokou's House

This is where Gokou and his family lived once he got married. It is located within visual
distance of Son Gohan's house, and is right next to a river on Paozu Mountain.

The Kame House

Located on a small island in the middle of the ocean, this is where Master Roshi and Umigame
live. Krillin moves in too after he is introduced. Lunch lived there as well as a caretaker/cook
until after Gokou defeated Piccolo during the Tenkaichi-budokai. It also serves somewhat as a
gathering place due to its isolation; when big and powerful enemies wreak havoc on Earth the
good guys stay there so they can plan their next move and not get found.

Village

This is a small village in the middle of the country that never was given a name. (we only get
to see "Village" on the sign in the manga and the sign is destroyed in the show). This is the
village that Oolong was terrorizing into supplying him with young girls. It only was in one
episode of the first series but was a fairly important place all the same, being where Oolong
makes his first appearance.

Yamcha's desert

When we first get to see Yamcha he is living in a hollowed-out mesa in the middle of a large
desert. (All things considered, it's a pretty nice place, too.) This desert is very large and very
hot, and is characterized by an abundance of mesas like the one Yamcha lives in. Anyone
who travels through this desert becomes Yamcha's victim; he robs them of their money and
Hoipoi Capsules (although I wonder how much traffic a desert like that gets.)

Frypan Mountain

This is where Gyumao and his daughter Chichi (before she got married to Gokou) live. It is a
tall mountain with a castle at the top, in which Gyumao lives and keeps his treasure. By the
base of the mountain is a destroyed village. (By Gyumao, maybe?) One day while Gyumao
and Chichi were having a picnic "fire from the heavens" came down and set the mountain on
fire, one which could not be put out. Eventually Master Roshi puts it out with a Kamehameha,
which destroys the mountain as well. In the anime series Gyumao rebuilds the village and acts
as its protector after this.

The Mushroom Village

This small village is located to the far west of Frypan Mountain. It is characterized by very
tall mushrooms surrounding the general area. This is the village that the Usagi-dan were
terrorizing.

Pilaf's Castle

Pilaf lives alone with his two subordinates Shuu and Mai in this castle. It is a huge,
extravagant castle, filled with traps and pitfalls for those who wander in uninvited. It is also
the first place in the series that Shen-long was summoned.

Master Roshi's training island

When Master Roshi trains his pupils, he makes the Kame House into a capsule and takes it to
a larger island with many good places to train in, including large jungles filled with wild
animals, large fields to till, (with your hands!) a mountain to climb, big boulders to move, and
a large lake with sharks in it to practice speed-swimming. This is where Gokou, Krillin, (old)
Gohan, Gyumao, and probably Yamcha were trained.

Papaya Island and the Tenkaichi-Budokai

Papaya island is an island in the south seas where every five years (and then became every
three years) martial artists from all over the world to compete in a famous tournament known
as the "Tenkaichi-Budokai." My personal translation of "Tenkaichi-Budokai" is "The World's
Greatest Martial Arts Meet/Tournament." It is the place where the martial artists compete to
earn the title of being the best fighter in the world. The tournament itself is a series of rounds
of one-on-one matches, the winner advancing to the next round, until only one person is left.
The rules of the Budokai are as follows: If you are knocked out for a ten count, knocked out
of the ring, or say "Maitta," (I give up) then you lose. However, if you kill your opponent,
you will lose. There are a grand total of five Budokais in the DB/DBZ series, but the last two
were cut short due to strange circumstances.

Namu's Village

Namu lives in a small village in a hot part of the earth. Because there was a drought, he
entered the Tenkaichi-Budokai in order to buy water for his village with the prize money. Of
course, the water was free as he learned later, so he didn't need to buy it.

Silver Taisa's camp

Upon hearing that there was a Dragon Ball, the head of the Red Ribbon Army sent Silver
Taisa here to find it. While searching for "Suushinchuu," the Dragon Ball with 4 stars, Gokou
happened upon Silver, and fought him here. This is located in a hilly area of the world, with a
few forests of small trees as well.

Jingle Village

Located in the far north, Jingle village is an arctic town surrounded by mountains. When
Gokou's plane crashed he was saved by Snow from Jingle Village. The village was being
terrorized by the Red Ribbon Army and their elder had been kidnapped and was being held
in Muscle Tower.

Muscle Tower

This is the Red Ribbon Army's northern outpost, a six-leveled armed tower that looks a lot
bigger from the inside than the outside. The "head" of the tower is White Shogun, who has
the elder of Jingle Village captive on the top floor. On each floor there is a different challenge
that Gokou has to get past to advance to the next floor. From the bottom up, the main feature
of each level was 1: we never see, Gokou enters on the 2nd floor. 2: Red Ribbon Army
Grunts. 3: Metallic Gunso, a robot, 4: Murasaki Socho, a ninja, 5: Artifical Human #8, 6:
White Shogun himself.

The Western Capital, and the Capsule Corporation

A large, advanced city in the West. This is where Bulma and her parents live, and is also
where Capsule Corporation is located. The Capsule Corporation is the mansion where
Bulma and her parents live and where the Hoipoi Capsules were invented by Briefs. Because
the Hoipoi Capsules are used so widely throughout the world, Bulma's family is VERY rich,
and has all sorts of robotic servants and exotic animals within their mansion.

The Underwater Pirate Cavern

In a search for a Dragon Ball, Gokou, Bulma, and Krillin wander into an underwater cavern
that was a secret fort built by pirates long ago. It has many traps and even a shipyard within
it. Aside from the Dragon Ball, there is also the pirates' treasure in the underwater caverns.
However, the Red Ribbon army also follows Gokou-tachi into the caverns...

Blue Shogun's camp

This camp is where Blue Shogun was stationed in his search for the Dragon Ball that was
located within the underwater Pirae base.

Penguin Village

If you've read Toriyama's earlier manga series Dr. Slump, you already know about this
place. Penguin Village is where all the characters in Dr. Slump live, and when Gokou chases
Blue Shogun there, they make cameo appearances. Arale even gets a chance to help out
Gokou.

Seichi (holy land) Karin

Seichi Karin is a deeply forested area that Bora and his son Upa protect. It is also where
Karin's tower is located. This is also the place that Gokou first encounters Taopaipai; Bora
had a Dragon Ball and thus posed an obstacle to the Red Ribbon Army, so they sent
Taopaipai to get it back. This is also where Super Saiyajin 3 Gotenks fought Majin-Buu.

Karin's Tower

This tower, located in Seichi Karin, is very skinny and so tall that you can't even begin to see
the top from the base. It even took Gokou a full day to climb up it. Karin-sama lives at the top
of the tower, where he harvests the Senzu seeds and protects the Choseisui and the
Choshinsui. From the top of the tower he can see what is going on down on the earth.

And, far above the tower...

The Tenkai

The Tenkai (literally "The world in the heavens") is where Kami-sama and Mister Popo live.
It is located high above Karin's tower, so high that it isn't even visible from the top of the
tower. It is very large, and shaped somewhat like the bottom part of a sphere cut in half. On
the flat floor of the Tenkai is a palace and some trees as well. From here, the current Kami
can see what is going on anywhere in the world. Like the Kame House, the Tenkai is a place
for the good guys to hide while really powerful villains wreak havoc down on Earth.

Also in the Tenkai...

Seishin to Toki no Heya

Roughly translated as the "room of spirit and time." It is a special room located in the Tenkai.
Actually, it is a connection to a parallel dimension. The dimension it connects to is a huge,
white, flat planet with only a building with a bath and a toilet. The temperature fluctuates
greatly, from 50 C (122 F) to -40 C. (-40 F) Also the gravity there is 10 times that of Earth.
Also, only two people are allowed inside at one time. But what really is important about the
seishin to toki no heya is that time passes there much faster than the outside world; 1 day
outside is the equivalent of 1 year inside. Therefore it is an ideal place to train, which is its
primary purpose in the series.

The Town where Taopaipai Bought Clothes

After apparently killing Gokou, Taopaipai went to this town to buy new clothes, since his were
destroyed by Gokou's Kamehameha. While he spent three days here, Gokou was training with
Karin-sama.

The Red Ribbon Army Headquarters

This is a very large, heavily guarded fortress where the main forces of the Red Ribbon Army
stay and Red and Black make all their decisions. It's also where their Dragon Balls were
being held, so therefore Gokou goes and attacks it singlehandedly. This is where Gokou first
encounters Red and Black, the masterminds of the Red Ribbon Army.

The Town where Gokou Bought Clothes

After Gokou defeated the Red Ribbon Army, his clothes were pretty much torn to shreds.
Therefore, on their way to Uranai Baba's place, Yamcha, Krillin, and Pooalu got some new
clothes for Gokou at this town.

Uranai-no-Baba's place

Here, Uranai-no-Baba tells the future for an exorbitant rate of 10,000,000 zeni. (Dragon Ball
World currency) If you can't pay that much, then you have to fight five of her champions
before the future can be told. The first two you have to fight in a mini-Tenkaichi-Budokai out
back, and the second two you have to fight in the Demon's Toilet. The Demon's Toilet is a
pool of bubbling lava/poison/acid. High above the pool are two huge gargoyles sticking out
their tongues, and you have to fight on the tongues without falling off. The last fight was back
out at the mini-Budokai. Gokou-tachi couldn't afford the fee so had to fight to find out where
the last Dragon Ball was.

The Battle between Gokou and the Pilaf Machine

In trying to get the last Dragon Ball to revive Bora, Gokou ran into Pilaf, Shuu, and Mai. They
agreed to fight Gokou and the winner got to keep the Dragon Ball. Pilaf and his subordinates
fought in the Pilaf Machine, but it wasn't enough to beat Gokou.

Yahhoi

We never learn anything about this place, but this is where Gokou was before he went to the
22nd Tenkaichi-Budokai. Actually, he swam to Papaya Island from here.

The Jungle where Gokou met Yajirobe

In an attempt to avenge Krillin's death, Gokou fought with Tambourine on the Kintoun, only
to be defeated in midair and knocked to the ground. He landed here, in this jungle. He was
awakened by the smell of a cooking fish, and went to eat it. However, the fish belonged to
Yajirobe, who appeared soon afterwards. This is also the area where Yajirobe killed
Cymbal, who arrived looking for his Dragon Ball.

Giran's Village

This is the village that Giran lived in. The only time it ever appeared in the story is when
Tambourine went to kill him, which he did successfully.

The Battleground between Master Roshi and Piccolo

Originally intending to banish Piccolo-Daimao by using the Dragon Balls, Master Roshi was
forced to fight here when Piccolo-Daimao swallowed the Dragon Balls he had. Master Roshi
died from the exertion of firing a missed Mafuba, and Piccolo-Daimao was able to use the
Dragon Balls to make him younger. He then killed Shenlong and left.

The Central Capital

This city is where the Emperor lives in a part of the city called "King Castle." This is also
where the old Piccolo-Daimao launched his plan to conquer the world by capturing the
Emperor and making him declare Piccolo the new world ruler. It is a fairly large castle with a
surrounding suburban town. It is here where Gokou had his final showdown with Piccolo.

Raditz' Landing Spot

When Raditz first came to Earth to collect Gokou, he landed here, right near a farm. The
farmer, noticing the landing, came to check it out. He tried to shoot Raditz when he came
out, but Raditz caught it, and flicked it with his thumb back at the farmer, killing (or at least
severely injuring) him.

The Mountain where Piccolo and Raditz first met

Thinking he was Gokou, Raditz flew here and found Piccolo. They then "fought," and Raditz
was interrupted by finding the real Gokou and left.

The Place where Gohan Trained

Although it's never given a name in the manga or the anime, this area is where Piccolo trained
Gohan, and where the first encounter with Vegeta and Nappa took place. Nobody lives there
except for some (big) dinosaurs. It has a lot of big cliffs and a few trees, but other than that
there are no remarkable physical characteristics.

The Eastern Capital

This is the major metropolis in the eastern part of the world. When Vegeta and Nappa first
came to earth, their space capsules landed here. Upon landing, Nappa promptly destroyed
the entire city.

The Battleground Between Vegeta and Gokou

After the battle against the Saiyajins which claimed the lives of half of the Z Fighters, Gokou
went here with Vegeta to fight one-on-one. Yajirobe was just sort of there, and eventually
Krillin and Gohan came to save Gokou. The fight ended after Gohan flattened Vegeta as a
giant monkey.

Yunzabitt

This frozen continent in the far north is where Kami-sama first landed when he came from
Nameck-sei. It is also where his spaceship remained, even after he went to live in the Tenkai.
With Popo's help, Bulma found the spaceship there, and thus was able to go to Nameck-sei.

Freeza's Landing Spot

In an attempt to get revenge on Gokou for defeating him and marring his body, Freeza came
to Earth, and this is where he landed. He was going to wait for Gokou here and have his men
eliminate all the Earthlings on the planet. However, Trunks arrived first and obliterated all of
them.

Gokou's Landing Spot

A few hours after Freeza's death, Gokou finally returned to Earth after a year and landed
here. Because of Trunks, the Z fighters were here to greet him at the time.

The South Capital

This is a large city on a large island near Papaya island. Although people have mentioned it
from time to time in the anime and manga, nobody has ever actually gone there in the story.

The Island Where Artificial Humans #19 and #20 Appeared

Located just off the southern coast of the island where the South Capital is located, this is
where Artificial Humans #19 and #20 first appeared. It is a fairly small island, but has a
thriving city there. Because of Trunks' warning, the Z fighters managed to get there at the
onset of #19 and #20's attack, but were not able to stop them from leveling the town. In
Trunks' future, though, #17 and #18 were the ones to show up here instead.

The Battleground of the Fight vs Artificial Human #19

In order to protect the few suriviving humans in the city where they had appeared, Gokou and
the Artifical Humans traveled here. Gokou was defeated by #19 here, but Vegeta showed up
and continued the battle, finishing #19 off with his Big Bang attack.

The North Capital

This is the major metropolis located in the northern part of the world. The only time it ever
appeared in the story is when Krillin, Piccolo, and Tenshin-han were searching for Dr. Gero's
laboratory.

Dr. Gero's Lab

Located in a cave in the side of a mountain, Dr. Gero's lab is where he conducts his
experiments and keeps Artificial Humans #16, #17, and #18. After getting beaten up badly
by Piccolo, Dr. Gero (as #20) retreated here to activate #17 and #18. In an attempt to stop
#18 from activating #16, Trunks destroyed the lab. In addition, Dr. Gero has a secret lab,
located below the mountain that his normal lab is in. Dr. Gelo's main computer, his Artificial
Human plans, and where Cell is incubated.

The Battleground of Vegeta and Artifical Human #18

Vegeta chased the Artificial Humans here after Dr. Gero's lab was destroyed, and fought with
Artifical Human #18. After the fight started to go badly for him, however, Trunks tried to
help, which brought Artifical Human #17 into the conflict as well. The Artifical Humans pretty
much beat the tar out of the Z fighters who tried to help Trunks, and left soon afterwards.

The Town Where #18 Got New Clothes

Artificial Human #18's jacket was pretty much destroyed in her fight with Vegeta, so she and
the other Artifical Humans went to get new clothes. She just left without paying, so the owner
of the shop called the police on them, and the Artifical Humans had a minor conflict with
them nearby.

Gingertown

This is a suburb of the western capital. All of a sudden the entire population mysteriously
vanished. In reality, the population of Gingertown were Cell's first victims; in order to get
stronger, he absorbed all of them with his tail. Piccolo went to Gingertown in an attempt to
kill Cell. However, Cell completely leveled the town and got away.

Cell's Arrival Point

After killing Trunks in the future, Cell turned back into an egg and traveled back in time,
arriving here. Trunks, Bulma, and Gohan arrived here and found Cell's egg and his former
exoskeleton, and the very aged time machine.

The Battleground of Piccolo and Artificial Human #17

In order to prevent Cell from going Kanzentai, Piccolo tried to kill Artificial Human #17 here.
However, during their fight, Cell came and interrupted. After another battle between Cell and
#16, Cell absorbed #17 and reached his second form here as well.

The Island Where Cell Reached his Perfect Form

After a battle with Vegeta, Cell found Artifical Human #18 on this island and absorbed her,
reaching his perfect form. Immediately following, Cell defeated Vegeta and then Trunks here
as well.

The Cell Game

After going Kanzentai, Cell decided to hold a "Cell Game," much like the Tenkaichi-budokai,
except that there were two major differences: every fight would be against Cell and there
was no 10-count rule, you would fight until you were knocked out of the ring, surrendered,
or were killed. The Cell Game was constructed in a wide, uninhabited (at least uninhabited
after Cell got there) area. The ring itself is much larger then that of the Tenkaichi-budokai,
and there are four pointed tower-like constructions at each corner. Cell eventually destroys
the Cell Game when he wants more room to fight in.

Parsley City

This suburb of the Western Capital is where Trunks fought Artificial Humans #17 and #18 in
the future, and won an overwhelming victory.

Trunks' Future

The first time we get to see Trunks' future is at the end of Manga volume #33 in a special
story telling the story of how Trunks first came to Earth. Actually, Trunks' Future is
somewhat of an alternate dimension; when he went back in time he created an alternate time
line, even though his still existed. In Trunks' future, Artificial Humans #17 and #18 are far
more malicious than in the "normal" timeline, and are constantly going on killing sprees,
destroying more than half the Earth's population. It looks a lot like a "post-holocaust" world.
Future Trunks' last appearance is here, when he fights Artifical Humans #17, #18, and Cell
for the last time.

Sataan City

After Sataan "kills" Cell, his hometown is renamed Sataan City. This is where Gohan goes to
school with Beedel, Shapner, and Ireza, at Orange Star High School. Sataan City is also the
place where Gohan lived out his short career as the superhero "Great Saiyaman." (Was it
short? Maybe he continued as G.S.M after the Buu saga...who knows.) The "Sataan City"
manga installments and TV episodes did not go on for very long, but were some of my
favorites. :)

Babidi's Spaceship

Babidi's ship is a fairly large rocket-shaped spaceship set into the ground with only the tip
sticking out of the surface. There are several "stages" of levels in the center of the ship, each
guarded by one of Babidi's henchmen. All of these stages are connected via a central pipe.
Babidi also has the ability to transport anyone in a stage along with the pipe opening to any
place he chooses. At the very base of the spaceship Majin-Buu's egg is kept, and the walls
of the ship are made so as to absorb energy lost during fighting and send it to the egg.

The Battleground between Super Saiyajin 2 Gokou and Vegeta

After being controlled by Babidi, Vegeta made Gokou fight him and the two were teleported
here. The fight that occurred here gathered enough energy to revive Majin Buu at full power.

Majin-Buu's house

Using people changed into clay, Majin-Buu builds a house, as somewhat of a base, which
looks somewhat like a big animal of some sort. Although a fairly minor place in the series, it
does have some importance in that it is the birthplace of Super Buu.

I think that about covers it; there are some very minor places I didn't cover, like inside Buu,
and many of the nameless battlefields where important events took place. Like with the
characters, these are places that are both in the manga and the series; since I haven't gotten a
chance to see all of DB and DBZ I'm sure there are many places I haven't seen. However, if
there's any major place in the manga I've forgotten, let me know.
