The Spoken Men

The Spoken Men*, or Crystal Guard is the name of a group of individuals who long ago swore an oath to oppose the Chained Man.  This oath was sworn long before the first defeat and imprisonment of the Chained Man and the oath was so strong that no member of the Spoken Men could die of natural causes before the Chained Man was finally destroyed.  The Spoken Men lived on after his defeat and up to the Shattering.  It is unknown whether any of them survived the Shattering. 

*Despite the name both women and non-humans took part in the Oath.  Somewhere on their person they normally carry a crystal talisman that allows them to communicate and which has other properties as well.
