Occultist

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons death may die
-H. P. Lovecraft, The Nameless City

Class Description:
In forgotten and musty tomes lie forbidden knowledge--things which are better left unsaid and undone. These seekers of the occult desire wisdom that would best be forgotten. The opinions of others do not matter. Only mastery over the unknown is important. The key to everything is locked away, far from the reach of mankind. It is up to us to reestablish knowledge of the universe.

Occultists are drawn to magic because it is intrinsically strange and mysterious. But, they look at the unknowns of the universe in a different way than do the Mages. Instead of trying to harness power for their own use, Occultists worship and attempt to find the sources of ultimate power. Only by explaining "How" will one truly comprehend. Quests such as this, however, tend to influence one's social status rather poorly. For this reason, many Occultists are ostracized from groups and must research on their own. Other Occultists may band together into groups, in which they work together to fulfill their goals. In either case, they are still considered weirdos by the rest of society.

Occultists are the dark clad, pale complexioned kids who always sat at the back of the classroom in high school. They are also the people who run new age book stores in the basements of old, musty buildings. Gypsies, palm readers, wiccas, and tarot card readers are all of the occultist line. These are the people who dabble in the strange and mysterious -- that which is known as the occult.

"Remember, knowledge is power..."
