Misc. Game-Style MIDI Music

You can consider this a "leftover" page, much as "Sundry MIDIs". The difference is that this music is intentionally written in a game style. The only reason the music ends up here is because:
1. The project didn't go too far.
2. I misplaced some of the other songs from a collecton. :(
3. They don't really have a home in any project (yet)...I just wrote them for fun! :)

So, let's get to it. If I discover any more, and if they don't embarass me TOO badly, I'll put them up. :)

Stand-alone Tracks

Jamm!
I started writing this 1/15/2006 at my friends' house. Just some more fun, simple dance music. I must have done something right, because their baby boy was trying to dance to it! :D

Relentless!
Here it is...my first completed MIDI of 2006. As the title suggests, this is an action track.

Spellbound - 2005 Remix
The original Spellbound is on the Sundry MIDIs page, and was made in 1999 (I think). It was a good song, but I decided to play around with it a bit more. It's now looped, and has a wider instrument selection. I can't help but thing that there's some bad bass notes in there somewhere, but they're so buried in the mix now that I'm not sure. What I do know is that I've always liked this tune, and now there's even more to like. :)

Quickstep
A little Dixieland, a little hillbilly, some trumpet...and we have a nice little cute march here. :)

Mad Fiddler
A lot of you will probably hate me for this one...really, REALLY hate me. The name says it all...it's a really infuriating violin! Run, RUN!!! <;P

Light Sprinkles
I was shooting for a gentle, soothing ambient groove on this one. However, writing ambient music can be difficult, as one person's "soothing" can be another's "boring". Oh well. :)

Sandcastle Love Song
And the award for Most Bizarre Song Title goes to... ;)
Have mercy on me, folks. When I came up with this one, I was on a long and tiring bus trip. And what I ended up is a strange hybrid between surf music and a peppy Golden Oldie.

Vein of Earth
This one fellow who was putting a game together asked for a cave theme, and this is what I came up with. I really like how mysterious it turned out, and it was fun doing that "reverb piano" at the end.

Respite
This was originally also on the Sundry MIDIs page, but it's rightful home is here now.
In 2001, I tried out the series of horror games called Silent Hill, and got hooked immediately. In the second game, there was this one background song called "Alone in the Town", which played inside an abandoned (and thankfully monster-free) bowling alley. I grew especially fond of that music, as it had a certain vibe to it that reminded me of Twin Peaks. I tried to make a MIDI version of it, and IMHO I failed miserably. If you've ever had the misfortune of hearing it, my apologies. <:\
So this time, I decided to make a piece in the SPIRIT of "Alone in the Town". And that is what "Respite" shoots for...I see it in a relatively calm section of a SH-type game.
There's just one thing...that main melody on the crystal synth sounds terribly familiar. Did I rip it off from somewhere? I can't tell, and neither can my younger brother, who is the self-proclaimed Plaigerism Police. ;)
So what do you think?

A Moment of Heart
This is from several years ago, and I can't remember which project it belonged to. It's a piano-and-string ballad...nice and soft.

Dragoons of the Dark

If I remember correctly, this music was written about 1998 or 1999. I was lucky enough to discover them as my original work files, so I have prepared looped editions of them.

Tavern Techno
...I wonder why I used the word "tavern"...it's more suited for a nightclub!!! <:)
Dance music, no more and no less. A nod to 80s synthpop, especially Scritti Politti's "Absolute". Since I wanted to use this for a birthday website in 2005, I did some enhancemnt on it.

Tavern Jazz
Taking on jazz...was I crazy or something? ;P
Well, take a listen and make your own decisions. :)

Elevator Music 1
Taking a cue from some old Percy Faith albums that belong to my parents, I came up with a short-but-sweet easy-listening theme for, well, an elevator.

Violent Outbreak
As far as battle tracks are concerned...not one of my finest moments. <:)

HopeBeam Original Soundtrack

I believe this music was written about the same time as DotD. Being older music, it's not presented in the "OST" looped format unless otherwise noted.
UPDATE:Well...surprise, surprise. I had been bemoaning the fact that there were several pices missing from this little collection, and I finally found em! :D

Overture for HopeBeam
My trademark uplifting intro piece...well, at least I try to make it that way. :)

Requiem Tears
I forget whether this was meant for a somber opening or "Game Over". What I can tell you is that it is an attempt at more cinematic music, and it came across fairly well.

Arkan the Thief
This goofy and sly character was meant to be the first playable character. I had a little fun with this piece, although I think I made it a bit to weird...yes, even for me. But then again, how often do you get the chance to have a clarinet say "Nanny Nanny, Nyahh Nyahh"? ;)

Caught!
Uh oh...Arkan's just been caught with his fingers in the treasure. Oops! :)

Brinks the Guard
Man, I wish I could remember what I was told about this character. Sounds like he's a no-nonsense fellow, perhaps a bit of a hard-headed oaf. (This predates Final Fantasy IX, but this description certainly sounds like Steiner from that game.)

Tilla the Princess
Yes, she may have noble blood, but methinks this young lady is yearning for adventure and excitement.

The World Spreads Before Me
With a Kitaro-inspired opening, this piece is a more tranquil world map theme than most of my others. The tambourine-laden center piece was also inspired, this time from Xenogears's map theme.

Spring Comes to the Town
This has been one of my favorites of the old town themes. The string melody has some interesting twists to it, and I like how the background guitar strumming turned out...although on some sound systems it might be too loud, overwhelming the melody.

The Dreams That Haunt Me
I must say I'm glad I found this one. Nice little drama theme that reprises "Requiem Tears" in a lighter vein.

Proud Castle Walls
Hmmm...okay, perhaps it's Generic and Stereotypical Castle Music #999, but it's still fun. ;P

Snowy Twilight Town (Loop Edition)
One of my favorite winter village themes, in that it's more upbeat than my often-serene interpretations.
Since I also wanted to use this on that 2005 birthday website, I enhanced it a bit. Then I made it into a looped version.
