Final Fantasy VII is Square's latest game in the renowened game series, Final Fantasy. The looking at this game, one can see how the game really progresses from the old school knights and dragons type RPG that it was on the NES and SNES to the futuristic Blade Runner-esqe RPG.

Final Fantasy VII features lush 2D prerendered backgrounds with polygon characters for the field screen and full 3D world map and battles. To carry the story along, beautiful CG cutsceens are played periodically.

Although many magazines I've read have complained about FFVII being overhyped and that it's really not that good of a game, I still think it's the best and revolutionary RPGs since Secrets of Mana for the SNES. Lots of game magazine editors are always saying how the best RPGs were for the NES and how now the modern ones just seem like one big excuse to show off some FMV. It's just like people who think classic cars were the best cars yet or that the classic 50's films are far superior to todays movies. Well that's saying all that's fine until you get into your classic Woody or what ever the hell old car you have on some burning hot day and you have no air conditioning. Well, I don't know, but I think that most people then would prefer a new car over the nice looking, but nonetheless outdated classic. The same thing applies when you're choosing between an old movie and a modern movie. Say there was two movies, both with excellent acting a great story. The only difference was that one was an old movie with bad sets and horrible special effects. On the otherhand, the modern movie had excellent sets and special effects that were so realistic, you could have sworn they were real. Which one would you watch? If you had any sense, you picked the new one. Why? Because newer movies are better. So, like newer movies and newer cars, video games, too, are a lot better than they were before, which brings me to my conclusion that FFVII is better than the original one on the NES or any other previous one.
