Rigizan never knew his real parents.
He was found born to a dead woman by a group of mercenaries
and was taken in by the captain’s wife, Shiana.
Shiana died of sickness shortly after taking Rigizan in.
The captain, Fenlas, while not pleased, honored his wife
and raised the boy whom he blamed for the death of his wife.
Fenlas was a cruel and strict teacher who started training
Rigizan at an early age so he could earn money in the ongoing
campaigns. Rigizan
trained and began fighting with the mercenaries at the age of 11.
He strived for nothing more than approval and acceptance
from Fenlas, though it was never given.
A few years later, Rigizan, despite his
young age of 14, developed into a powerful warrior who fought
regularly with Fenlas and his mercenaries.
During one of the campaigns, Fenlas was seriously injured
and could no longer fight. Rigizan
continued to grow and strengthen as a warrior and Fenlas’ rage
and hatred of the young Rigizan grew as well.
Fenlas eventually went insane from his inability to fight,
the success of Rigizan, and the emptiness of his life without
Shiana. One night
after a particulary successful campaign for Rigizan, Fenlas
entered Rigizan’s tent at night in an attempt to kill him.
Fenlas called the young warrior a cursed child, and told
him that he should have died, not Shiana.
Fenlas then attacked the boy in a mad rage.
Confused, frightened, and full of grief Rigizan had no
choice but to defend himself and killed Fenlas.
Hearing the commotion, Fenlas’ mercenaries rushed to the
tent thinking an enemy raid took place only to find Rigizan
standing over the man who raised him.
Enraged, the mercenaries accused Rigizan of slaying Fenlas
in the night and attacked him.
Rigizan managed to escape with his life, and was left for
dead after being wounded and falling into a river.
Rigizan, has wandered the lands as a
mercenary and fought in various campaigns since then.
He feels guilt and remorse for what he had to do to Fenlas,
and feels Fenlas is right that he should have died.
Because of this, he is willing to take great risks in
battle, and looks to strengthen himself as a warrior, as that is
all he knows. He has a
soft spot for forgotten children and orphans due to the similar
background he shares with them.
He despises anyone who would hurt these children or pedal
in the slave market with them.
He still wanders the lands seeking some purpose and way to
atone, all the while training himself at any chance he can get. |
