Joe, Tai and Mimi are by a river, actually, Joe and Tai are in the river and Mimi is sitting on the bank. The boys are filling up bags, which Joe took from the diner, with water when Izzy runs up and tells the three that Gennai is back with another message.
All the kids are gathered around the image of Gennai. He tells them that he has good and bad news, then proceeds to relate the good news first. There is an eighth Digi-Destined in a far away land called Japan. T.K. hopes it's someone his size, and Mimi hopes it's someone her size so they can swap clothes. When Tai asks the name of the next Digi-Destined, Gennai tells them he forgets. But if all eight kids stick together, then both worlds will be safe. The bad news is that Myotismon has a way to get to Japan, and plans to reach the eighth child before the other seven can hook up with him/her.
The kids decide they need some spies on the inside...
CUT to: Inside Myotismon's castle. Sukamon, some Numemon, and a couple of Veggiemon are standing in the courtyard. Demidevimon is there, too. This group of Digimon is going to be Myotismon's invasion army in the other world, and the Digimon to whip them into shape will be Nanimon. Nanimon gives a little speech and is about to start training the Digimon when two more Digimon walk in. They are Punkagumon (Agumon wearing a red kerchief and a light, tan colored wig) and Reggepalmon (Palmon wearing a brown, dreadlock wig and a gold chain). They claim to be bad monsters and want in on the training. So Nanimon begins to train them all.
CUT to: Myotismon's personal chamber. Myotismon asks Demidevimon if his army will be ready, the smaller Digimon answers with a nervous yes. Gatomon then enters and tells Myotismon she had assembled a real army for him. We then see the silhouettes of the monsters Gatomon hired. A Bakemon phases into the room through the bookcase and tells Myotismon the room is ready. Myotismon dismisses Demidevimon and Gatomon, then goes to a safe in the bookcase and opens it. The bookcase parts to reveal a staircase, which Myotismon then walks down, followed by the Bakemon.
They are now in the portal room, and several other Bakemon are putting the finishing touches on the portal. A Bakemon asks what the portal is for, and Myotismon explains that it's a gateway to the other world. He will use it once he has figured out the secret of the cards. There are nine cards, each looking like a circuit board.
CUT back to: All the Digimon Nanimon is training are slumped together in one heap, exhausted. They all want to leave, but know that Nanimon will stop them if they try. Sukamon then speaks up, saying he was in an army with Nanimon before. Nanimon loves soda, and the bubbles go right to his head, intoxicating him on fizz. A Numemon leaves the group and climbs up a wall behind Nanimon, unseen, in search of soda. Nanimon puts the others back to training, making them hop like bunnymon.
CUT to: The Numemon finds the storeroom, then locates the soda.
CUT back to: The courtyard. The Digimon are all tired, when bottles of soda with little white parachutes start falling from the sky. Nanimon immediately starts to drink them, and soon collapses. Punkagumon and Reggepalmon take this time to leave.
CUT to: The Digi-Destined outside of Myotismon's castle, with Gennai. They are starting to worry when Reggepalmon lets her Poison Ivy out of a window. The kids are all brought up, two at a time, to the window so they can try to stop Myotismon.
CUT to: Inside Myotismon's castle. The Digi-Destined are wandering around in a big maze, lost. Matt and T.K. have a feeling something isn't right. That's when they come upon a torch in the hallway they are in... a torch with the fire burning down towards the ground. The picture then rotates to show Matt and T.K. standing on the ceiling.
Joe, Sora, and Mimi are at a door. There is a lock on it, but they can't get it open, so they move on.
Tai and Izzy meet up, but both seem to think that the other is below them. The camera pans out and we then see that Tai and Izzy are on the same bridge, only Tai is on top looking down at Izzy and Izzy is on the bottom looking up at Tai.
The Digi-Destined regroup. Izzy tells then Myotismon is using illusions to confuse them. The kids then see the silhouettes of the monsters Gatomon hired, and decide to follow them to the portal room.
CUT to: The portal room. Myotismon has figured now out the cards and he uses them. The portal activates, the two big steel doors swing open. The silhouetted monsters walk through the portal as Myotismon walks over to his carriage. He is about to enter it when the Digi-Destined come running down the stairs. Nanimon's army gets in the way, blocking their access to the portal. Agumon,Palmon, Gabumon, Gomamon, and Tentomon Digivolve and the 'army' breaks rank and runs away.
Nanimon, after a brief argument with Demidevimon, also runs off.
Myotismon makes for the portal and Gatomon covers his back. She attacks the Champion Digimon and knocks them down.
The kids are starting to run for the portal when Gatomon activates the gargoyles on the wall. They turn into Devidramon and attack. The Champion Digimon fight the Devidramon while the kids continue to run for the portal. A Devidramon gets in their way but is knocked out of the way by a Champion, this happens several times.
The portal is almost closed. More Devidramon get in the way, but Greymon Digivoles to Metal Greymon (and that cool Ultimate music starts playing [you know... Hey Digimon, Hey Digimon/ Monster friends to the boys and girls/ Hey Digimon, Hey Digimon/ Champions of the Digital World] ) and takes them out with his Giga Blaster, Dedigivoling down to Koromon afterwards. The kids continue running towards then door. Gatomon mocks the Digi-Destined from the other side. Tai has almost reached the portal when the doors close together, locking the portal again. Tai bounces off the doors and is caught by Joe and Matt.
The episode ends with a close up on Tai's anguished face.
