How to view Japanese documents

If you don't have Japanese font, you aren't able to view Japanese documents properly.
Some famous web browsers such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Netscape's Netscape Navigator
( or Communicator ) are supporting multiple language. You will be able to view Japanese documents
properly by using these web browsers and having Japanese font installed on your computer.

How to get Japanese font and set it on the browser

Internet Explorer 4

Go to Microsoft Internet Explorer download page,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie40/download/rtw/x86/en/download/addon95.htm
then download,

Multi-Language Support : Japanese Language Support
( file name : ie3lpkja.exe, file size : 2,460KB )

then,

1. On the View menu in the browser, click Internet Options.
2. On the General tab, click Languages.
3. Click Add.
4. Select the language you want to add.

When you want to view Japanese, on the View menu in the browser, go to Fonts and check
"Japanese (Auto Select)."

Netscape Navigator ( or Communicator )

You need to have Japanese font in your computer.
Now there are three kinds of font you can download, however, they have some problems.

Following information is quoted from http://people.netscape.com/ftang/communicatorfont.html

--------
You can download ONE of the following font:

Bitstream Cyberbit:

You can use Bitstream Cybertbit font to view your Chinese/Japanese/Korean text.
You DO NOT need the NLS files that Netcape 3.0 required.
The Bistream Cybertbit font could be found in ftp://ftp.bitstream.com/cyberbit/cyberbit.exe
Using this font may have problem with HTML FORM Text Input or TEXTAREA.

MS Gothic:

Go to the following URL: http://ms.www.conxion.com/msdownload/ieinstall/ie3lpkja.exe.
( This link probably won't work )

According to the company which release the downloadable, this downloadable are
Language Package for one of their particular product. Make sure you read their License
Agreement. Base on the complain from the company which release the downloadable,
I have to mention that "I do not encourage you to break the License Agreement", so I won't
get suit.

UWJMG3 (SJIS) From UnionWay:

You can download this font from http://www.unionway.com/uwjmg3.htm or
ftp://ftp.ifcss.org/pub/software/fonts/unicode/ms-win/uwjmg3.exe .
Using this font may have problem with HTML FORM Text Input or TEXTAREA.
--------

In my opinion, the best font among the above is MS Gothic ( Microsoft ). However, as it has been
already mentioned, if you want to use the font, you are suppose to use Microsoft Internet Explorer.
So to get MS Gothic, you may download Internet Explorer first ( if you haven't installed it on your
computer ), then download MS Gothic (ie3lpkja.exe) and install it.

But If you really do not want to install or download Internet Explorer for some reason and if you still need
to download MS Gothic, there is a way. ( It's up to you )

Go to this site: http://ftpsearch.lycos.com/
search for the file "ie3lpkja.exe"

I'm sure you will be able to find the file on some ftp server. ( there are a lot )
Choose one of servers and download it and install.

Last, once you have Japanese font, refer following information for how to set it on Netscape Navigator.
( it is easy )
http://home.netscape.com/eng/intl/basics.html

If you are using AOL or whatever not these two famous web browsers, I don't know, sorry.
