Fanny Bay is a small community situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. If you know anything about us, you are one of those people that this page hopes to reach. The fact that we do not even know where our name came from has inspired some of our residents [try] to to capture the history of our community before it is lost to posterity. We are going to publish a history of Fanny Bay in book form and maintain a set of archives to enhance that book. All those who help in the creation of this recorded history will be proud of it. We are currently gathering data and would look forward to hearing from anyone who has any information or anecdotes about Fanny Bay. We would also be interested in seeing any photos or newspaper clippings that might help us give a fuller account of how our community has developed and grown.
About
the name! We assigned investigative reporter Arv Olson
to track down the origin of the name "Fanny Bay". See the results
of his inquiries. They have been inconclusive. What do you
think?
Our
Mystery Page! Here we have posted photographs in the hopes that some
of you may be able to help us identify the individuals shown. Our
first two photos are of the employees of the shingle mill.
A
chronicle of key events in the history of our community. Can
you fill in some of the missing information?

Japanese
settlers played a major role in the development of Fanny Bay prior
to 1942 when the government ordered that they be interned. We are
trying to make contact with some of these pioneers and with anyone who
might be able to provide information about them.
