After their setback at the Keep, the Bretonnians had decided to break
through the weakest part of the Chaos line with a small force of
Knights, Squires and Archers. Two brave warriors were given messages for
the nearby hold of Lord Karmaine and a bodyguard to help them get
through.

CHAOS
*****
Commander Vortal awoke with a start. Something had alerted him... there
it was again, a whispering in his... head?
"Commander... the Bretonnians are sending messages this day to other
castles. They must be stopped. It is your duty. At daybreak, assemble
your men at Orchead Pass. Do not fail me..."
Sitting straight up in bed, Vortal screamed at the top of his voice:
"ASSEMBLE THE MEN! NOW!*)%^$(%%(*"
Commander Vortal (Chaos Hero of Slaanesh on Steed with Chaos Armour,
Lance and Shield)
5 Marauder Horsemen with Flails and Light Armour
5 Marauders with Flails, Light Armour and Shields
1 Harpy
BRETONNIA
*********
Jon de Montegne, eldest son of the Duke de Montegne, called his squire
to see him. "We ride at daybreak. If... anything happens to me, take
this message and see that it is placed in the hands of the Lord Karmaine
himself." He handed the squire a tightly-rolled sheaf of paper.
Outside, the sun's first glimmer showed itself above the horizon. "To
horse, everyone! Archers, you are the rearguard!"
Jon de Montegne, Knight of the Realm Hero, standard Knightly equipment
4 Grail Knights
4 Mounted Squires (one of whom was the reserve messenger)
3 Questing Knights
6 Bowmen
[*[This scenario calls for the besieged player to get a message through
enemy lines, i.e. off the board. Why everyone can't carry a message I'm
not sure, but there you go. The besieged side is also allowed to buy
models in units of less than 5- if a unit has less than 5 models, its
models can be equipped differently and act independently. This makes
things hellishly difficult for the besieging side, who cannot do this-
they don't know who is and who isn't a messenger. If either messenger
gets off the opposite table edge, the besieger wins). Forces were 500
points per side.]*]
Turn 1: Bretonnian
******************
The Bretonnian force split into 3 distinct parts. Jon de Montengne,
accompanied by half-a-dozen knights and quires, galloped to the left of
the Chaos force. The archers held position in the centre, ready to rain
death on the Chaos troops. The rest of the knights and squires went to
the right, into the arms of the single harpy.
Turn 1: Chaos
*************
Realising that he couldn't see any of the Bretonnians surrounding their
leader, Commander Vortal moved onto a hill for a better view. His
Horsemen, who had been sent to outflank the Bretonnians, moved up to the
rear of the group containing Jon de Montagne. Completely by chance and
much to the horror of Jon, the harpy selected the reserve messenger as a
target and tore the head from his shoulders. This placed the burden of
delivery entirely on Jon himself.
Turn 2: Bretonnia
*****************
Seeing the fate of his squire, Jon's knights formed up around him as
they were galloping forward, apart from a single valiant Grail Knight
who ran toward the Marauders to delay them. The archers shot one of the
Marauders from his saddle. The depleted force on the right of the
battlefield moved on. The Bretonnians were now half-way across the
board.
Turn 2: Chaos
*************
With an angry cry, Vortal charged one of the knights guarding Jon,
smashing him from the saddle. The Marauders cut down the knight
approaching them, while the harpy moved to the centre of the battlefield
to get a better charge arc. The marauders on foot turned toward the
approaching Knights. The Brettonian plan was working.
Turn 3: Bretonnia
*****************
All the knights formed up around Jon de Montagne. One more movement
phase would see them off the board, as long as nobody could attack their
leader.
Turn 4: Chaos
*************
The marauders on foot charged a Squire, smashing him to pulp with their
flails. Another Grail Knight fell to the lance of Commander Vortal, and
the Harpy descended on a third Knight, but failed to harm him.
Turn 5: Bretonnia
*****************
Jon de Montagne escaped the battlefield, along with most of his knights.
Bretonnia had won.
RESULT
******
Knowing that help was on the way, the Bretonnians would have +1 Ld for
the rest of the campaign. Also, they could now choose the Reinforcements
scenario, which would get them extra points in the Final Assault.
Part 3: Infiltrators follows.
