The cause of the Ancient's Demise, Jenova is a very powerful being indeed.
Who knows what would have happened if she regained her former strength?
My guess would be that we wouldn't have been worried about meteor.
Jenova is the catastrophy from the sky.
Her cells, when injected, can cause wild mutations.
If you try to challenge her, you will have to face her various times in various forms.
She isn't that easy to kill, even though she has been weakened considerably.
