Chapter 1: Attack from the past

X was enjoying a glass of saki and watching his favorite anime when all of a sudden...

"Warning! All Maverick hunters report to headquarters!" blared the warning signal. X dropped his drink on his lap.

"What could it be now, I just killed sigma..." wondered X, as he reported in. Thinking about sigma also reminded him of zero and that mysterious figure who had saved him. All these thoughts were shoved to the back of his mind as he entered the base. Nothing could have prepared him for what he saw.

"What the....Who could have done this? Is sigma back already?" muttered X in awe.

"Hahahaha," laughed a feminine-sounding voice from behind X. X turned around. "This is the work of queen Beryl. You have no chance against us. Submit now."

X stared incredulously at the blond, ponytailed human. "Who are you, and who is this 'Queen Beryl' you speak of? You have a lot of nerve coming in like this. What makes you think I will surrender?"

"Hahahaha, you will find out soon enough. " said the blonde, floating up. X couldn't decide if it was a man or a woman. The person spoke in a most feminine manner, but had a chest as flat as a Kansas prairie. "Goodbye, and if you know what's good for you, you will join us." With a shower of cherry blossoms, the figure disappeared.

Trying not to think about this mysterious visitor, X went into the Maverick Hunter base. There were bodies littering the ground, as well as various colors of blood. Here were X's new partners; they hadn't even made a first impression. As X entered the command center, Signas began to rise slowly from a blood-stained corner. "X...glad you could make it...but your timing's lousy..." he said.

"Sorry, Commander. What happened here? Who is this Queen Beryl person?" X asked.

"Ah, so you've heard about that wench." Signas took a seat near the comm equipment. "Just a second, while I rally the remaining forces." Signas turned on the PA system and called for the remaining Hunters to meet in the underground weapon storage room. X suspected that something really big was going down.

Signas hobbled to the elevator and motioned for X to follow. When the short ride was over, X and Signas moved into the center of a room full of crates and armor-plated chests, presumably full of heavy artillery. A few Hunters had made it down to the storage room. Lifesavor, Gretchen, Bob-6, José, and of course, IT-73. He had a nack for getting out of sticky situations, since he was invisible (hence the code-name).

Signas laid down in a makeshift commander's chair made of some the assorted crates. "As you know," he spoke slowly, "we have suffered the most catastrophic and degrading loss in the history of the Maverick Hunters. And before this day is done, I will be hunting for blood. We were attacked by a mysterious force of alien monsters and human warriors. They used their bizarre powers and overall gay appearance to take us completely by surprise. "

"Are they in league with Sigma?" Bob-6 asked.

"At this time, we can only hope not. Since they did not use and robots or ANY machines against us, we can only assume that they are not working with Sigma, or are Mavericks themselves." Signas said. "However, since the attackers were humans, we cannot fight back directly. We need to employ some other means of offense. That brings us to why I called the meeting down here..."

X's logic circuits confirmed his earlier suspicion. Something really, REALLY big was going down.

The other hunters were busy talking amongs themselves in a hushed whisper. Suddenly, Signas pointed to a large mirror-like doorway. "This," he said, "is a gateway to the past. In the world of the past, we must go to the legendary city of Tokyo-01."

More gasping erupted from the group. The city known as Tokyo-01 was destroyed hundreds of years ago, and now there was only Tokyo-18.3 to remind them of the once proud metropolis. Signas raised a hand to silence the group. "You are to embark on a journey to find the legendary Sailor Senshi of Tokyo-01. They are warriors from the past who do not exist in this time stream, because this is not a Sailor Moon game we come from. Anyway, you must find the Senshi at any cost, and call them back to this time to fight 'Queen Beryl' and her vicious hordes."

Bob-6 and Gretchen were about to leave when X stopped them. "Don't hold me back!" Gretchen said. "Human problems are not our concern!"

"Stupid humans, I wish they would all go to hell for this!"

X frowned, a muscle movement he was not used to. "Humans made us what we are, and they ARE our responsibility. You should not think so negatively of humans simply because there is one group that is so dastardly." Bob-6 and Gretchen grudgingly returned to their positions.

X turned around, and worried about Bob and Gretchen. "Why do they harbor those feelings against humans. Humans have done nothing to illicit that, and they should know that without humans, we are nothing," X thought with a frown.

"X," calmly stated Signas, who had just come up behind X, "I need to talk to you about the mission."

X wheeled to face the mighty Signas.

"Commander!" X saluted with all the dignity he could muster, after failing to protect the humans killed during the attack.

"Come, follow me back to the command center, there I will inform you of the mission to come." Signas told X as he began to walk down the hallway.

"X, you look worried. Usually, you are confident about your job, even when things look bleak. What's the problem?" Signas asked, concern mirrored in his eyes.

"I'm worried about Bob-6 and Gretchen. Their feelings twords the humans have turned....sour. I'm afraid, that during the next attack, they will....."

"Go maverick." Signas interupted. "I tell you what X, I will keep my eye on them, and if I think they are a threat, I will release them. I don't want to see them have to be deactivated either."

X still was not sure, wondering in his mind if anyone could keep them away if they chose to kill the humans. X looked up, and saw they were at the command center. His thoughts would have to take second place to the mission at hand. X watched as Signas walked up to the Holoscreen, and activated it. A large green map appeared, one that was unfamiliar to X.

"X, this is a map of Japan during the late 1990's," Signas announced as he pointed his finger tword the map." On it, I have marked the houses and school of the senshi that we need to find. You will go alone to find the senshi, and bring them back to the present."

X studied the map carefully. It looked exactly like the historic district of Tokyo 18.3. X turned back to Signas. "Ok, I'm ready Signas."

Signas walked over to the teleporter, and flipped a red switch on the bottom. X noticed that the thing looked a lot like many of the Dr. Light capsules he had found.

"X," Signas sighed, "you can just walk in anytime. It will take you to Tokyo."

"Roger, Signas. I'll see you when I come back." X said as he jumped into the teleporter and disappeared.

"Good luck X." Signas said.
