Knack: Read Opponent | Rank: 5 |
Talent: Anticipate Blow | Cost: 150 |
Discipline: Warrior | Strain: 2 |
The Warrior looks deeply into his opponents eyes to determine his thoughts. By extreme concentration the Warrior mentally becomes his opponent for a brief moment, finding their weaknesses.
To perform this knack, Anticipate Blow roll is made against Spell Defense. A good result allows the player to ask the GM one of the opponents current statistics (eg., 'What is this Jehuthras Unconsciousness Rating?"). This effect occurs in addition to the normal effect of Anticipate Blow.
Knack: Foresight | Rank: 6 |
Talent: Anticipate Blow | Cost: 100 |
Discipline: Warrior | Strain: 1 |
While concentrating on his opponent, the Warrior sees the opponents next move, allowing him to pre-empt the oncoming attack.
With an excellent success on the Anticipate Blow test, the Warrior may add his rank in Anticipate Blow, to any tests to avoid being hit by that enemy (eg., using Avoid Blow, or similar talents). This knack works in addition to the normal effect of Anticipate Blow.
Knack: Throw Enemies | Rank: 6 |
Talent: Swift Kick | Cost: 100 |
Discipline: Warrior | Strain: 1 |
After successfully grappling a target, the Warrior throws the opponent into the air, using the Throw Enemies knack. This is often used to lauch pestering enemies away from the middle of a heated battle.
The Swift Kick test is made as normal. A strength roll is then made to determine the number of yards horizontally, that the target is sent (determine scatter at landing point). This roll also counts as damage. Up to half of this distance may be vertical.
Knack: Strangle | Rank: 7 |
Talent: Unarmed Combat | Cost: 100 |
Discipline: Warrior | Strain: 1 |
After successfully grappling an opponent useing Unarmed Combat, the Warrior may elect to choke the opponent during consecutive rounds. Complex strangle holds (see Ju-Jitsu literature) are usually applied.
To perform this knack, the grapple must have been held for at least one round. At the beginning of the next round, the choke may then be treated as if it were a standard Unarmed Combat attack, making an attack and damage test for each round. The target number for the opponent to get out of the hold, is still equal to the initial grapple test result. Damage for the choking is treated as attacking to stun. Physical Armour may be used to absorb some of this damage, unless the initial grapple was armour defeating.
The following example illustrates this knack:
Brun, protector of Rizan, sails upon the skies above in his mighty airship - 'The Manticore'. Peering below, he sees a burly troll Thief, scaling the walls of his square keep. Leaping from his ship he glides to the rooftop using 'Wind Catcher', so he can spring an attack upon this would be aggressor. As the Troll wipes the sweat from his brow, having successfully climbed the wall, Brun strikes. Weaving his arms around his opponents arms, having sprung from behind, the Troll is placed in a 'Full-Nelson' manouvre. Brun rolls a 19 for his Unarmed Combat, defeating the trolls Physical Defense. This number (19) is also the difficulty number the troll must beat, in order to escape Bruns clutches. In the following two rounds, the troll has not escaped, so Brun grabs the back of the trolls tunic, pulling it tight against his throat. Brun makes two attack tests, causing 21, and 30 points of damage. Miraculously the troll is still alive, but choking. In the third round the troll rolls 23, escaping Bruns 'Half-Nelson', at which point he dives off the castle landing safely in a wagon - beyond Bruns deadly grasp.
Knack: Tactical Retreat | Rank: 6 |
Talent: Avoid Blow | Cost: 100 |
Discipline: Warrior | Strain: 2 |
The Warrior completes an evasive manouvre such as a roll, or somersault, in order to escape the clutches of a dangerous scenario. While escaping, the Warrior may move a number of yards equal to their Avoid Blow roll (but not exeeding half their combat movement). While they are moving evasively, they may pass attackers, who must treat the Avoid Blow test as the Warriors Physical Defense.
