Woodbridge, Virginia—The Coors Brewing Company, along with United Beverage Distributors, have chosen Pev's Paintball and PCRI to promote their 1st Annual "Bar Brawl" Paintball Challenge to be held in Washington, DC in the spring of 1998. The winning team will win a 3 night / 4 day cruise to the Bahamas paid for by Coors Lite.
After viewing paintball on ESPN, Coors and the Marketing Department for United Beverage, decided this may be a new market to affiliate themselves with. As a test market, the Northern Virginia (Washington, DC) area will be a great area to begin a new promotional idea...and if the even is a success, they will expand the tournament to a regional format followed by a national format.
This will be an amateur only event, and the teams will consist of customers and employees of 20 participating restaurants/bars from the Northern Virginia area. For promotional purposes, the event will be run over an eight week period; six Sundays for a duration of an eight week period with two Sunday breaks. A "ladder banner" will be displayed in each bar displaying team rankings and will be updated each week. Sponsors names/logos will also be listed on each banner.
The format will be "double elimination / best 2 out of 3". Each team plays another team 3 games (1 round), the winner being the team who wins 2 games. One teams lose 2 rounds, they are eliminated from the tournament. To ensure an even playing field, all team members must use the equipment provided, which will all be identical. Each team player will be giving 200 paintballs per game.
United Beverage and Coors chose Pev and PCRI because of their experience and success with several NPPL tournaments. Pev had this to say, "When the representatives of these companies approached me to promote their event, I had no idea they wanted to make it this big. They obviously had done their research before contacting me and they already knew about our background and credentials before approaching us. I am very excited about this and am glad to be involved with the first paintball event sponsored at this level by a national beverage company...Coors Lite".
