The Colleges of Magic

Introduction

The various colleges of magic are fiercely competitive and each thinks it’s own style the best. They guard their spells carefully and try not to reveal to much to anyone not of their school of magic.
When someone chooses a path of magic it is done at an early age, this is because years of studying and hard work lie before them. They are apprenticed to a local school sometimes there is no choice what school they can attend, (sometimes there is only one to choose from) but if they come from the capital they have a choice of all the schools bar Necromancy.

Therefore the various schools vie for the students on offer but without giving away to mush to their competitors.

The Schools Of Magic

There are 12 official schools of magic and one unrecognised school.
The schools of magic are: -

The 13th school is The College of Necromantic Conjugations – this school is very much an underground College simply by the very nature of the magics involved. Students of this College are very secretive and avoid contact with others completely. It is almost impossible to become a student of this type of magic unless you know a Necromancer and that on it’s own is a bad thing to know.

There is one race that uses Necromancy almost at the exclusion of other Magics and they are The Drow.

The College Of Ensorcelments and Enchantments

This college is concerned with general magic, but especially with charming and enchanting individuals and objects.

They have 1 Talent, 9 General Knowledge Spells and 4 general knowledge rituals.

They are said to be able to talk to Enchanted creatures, it is difficult to hide from an adept who has met you before. They are said to be able to become invisible or at least be able to walk unseen. They can use magic crystals to see things and charm others to their will

The College of Sorceries of the Mind.

The College of Sorceries of the Mind is concerned with the manipulation of the mental powers of sentient beings.

They have 3 Talents, 7 General Knowledge Spells and one General Knowledge Ritual.

They are said to be immune to pain and have the ability to see danger before it happens. They can control both animals and people.

The College of Illusions

The College of Illusions is concerned with the creation of stimuli designed to fool the senses of an observer so that he will accept the existence of what is in fact non-existent.

They have 2 Talents, 5 general Knowledge Spells and one Ritual.

They are said to be able to conjure all sorts of marvellous sights and sounds.

The College of Naming Incantations

Members of the College of Naming Incantations specialise in the knowledge of all True names and of magic in general.

They have one Talent , there are up to 26 General Knowledge spells, but these are all the counter spells of other colleges. They also know one ritual.

The College of Air Magics

The College of Air is concerned with the shaping of the element air.

They are said to have 1 talent, 8 general knowledge spells and 2 general knowledge rituals. They hate being underground or enclosed in small spaces.

They are supposed to be able to talk to birds, whistle up the wind and predict the weather. They can use the element of air to hide in and can cause water to freeze in an instant

The College of Water Magics

The College of Water magics is concerned with the shaping of the powers in the element of water.

They are said to have only the Talent, but 14 General Knowledge spells and one Ritual

The College Of Fire Magics

The College of Fire magics is concerned exclusively with the element of fire.

They have one talent, 8 general Knowledge Spells and one Ritual.

The College Of Earth Magics

The College of Earth Magics are concerned with the shaping of the powers of the earth itself and of those entities and things that are rooted in the earth or in contact with it.

They have one Talent, 11 General Knowledge Spells plus one Ritual.

Earth magi are renowned for their healing powers.

The College of Celestial Magics

They are said to have three talents, 9 General Knowledge Spells and 2 Rituals

The College of Summoning

The College of Summoning is generally concerned with the summoning, conjuring and binding entities of the same plane as the Adept and establishing communications with said entity.

They are known to have 2 talents, 14 general Knowledge Spells and two Rituals.

The College Of Shaping Magics

The College of Shaping magics is concerned with the fashioning and animation of non-living matter, with the construction of enchantments of an enduring nature and, most importantly, with the creation of potent magical items.

They are said to have the one Ritual, 5 General Knowledge Spells as well as 11 Rituals.

The work of this college is much sort after by other magic users for with the aid of a member of this College other magi can create powerful Magic Staffs and wands.

The College of Rune Magics

This College concerns itself with the use of special symbols of power to shape mana into desired forms. A Rune is the graphical symbol representing some actual, elemental, or mystical force.

They are said to have 5 talents, 9 General Knowledge Spells and 6 Rituals.

The College of Necromantic Conjurations

Nothing is really known about this College except that they deal with the processes of life, death, decay and putrefaction.
