To edit an existing scheme, select "Open" from the File menu and then choose the file you want to open.

To stop editing a scheme, select "Close" from the File menu.

To keep changes to a scheme, select "Save" from the File menu.

To change the filename or create a copy of a scheme, select "Save As" from the File menu.

To get a hard copy text representation of a scheme, select "Print" from the File menu.

To open any of the last four schemes edited, choose its scheme name from the "File" menu.

To end an editing session, select "Exit" from the File menu.

General scheme settings

To change the descriptive name of a scheme, click on the "General" tab and edit the "Scheme Description" text area. This is the name that is displayed when the "change scheme" option is selected from the game. There are a couple of conventions that exist for schemes. First, the number of players for which the scheme was designed is put in parentheses after the scheme name. All players must still be placed, but a scheme doesn't have to be designed to make it "playable" for all of them. (E.g., a scheme designed for eight people has "(8)" after its description.) Second, if a scheme is specifically designed for team play, this number of players will be two numbers in parentheses, one for the number of white players and one for the number of red players. (E.g., a scheme designed for four on four team play will have "(4)(4)" at the end instead of "(8).")

To increase or decrease the density of "Destructible Brick" which is actually filled when the game is played, click on the "General" tab. Drag the "Block Density" slider left or right. Right is more dense, left is less dense. You can also type the percentage directly into the text box which is next to the slider.

Teams

To change team assignments (red or white), click on the "General" tab. Click the "Team" button next to a player's face to toggle the team assignment for that player.

Basic field editing

To begin editing the field for a scheme, click the "Field" tab. When a new scheme is created or a scheme is opened, this tab is selected by default.

Player positions are changed by the use of drag and drop. Select "Player Grab" in the toolbar. A player's position is then changed by simply clicking on that player, dragging to the new position, and releasing.

To change blocks on the screen to "Blank Field," "Destructible Brick," or "Indestructible Block," first click on the "Field Draw" tool. Click the desired field type on the toolbar and then click on a field location to change. It is possible to click and hold the mouse button and then drag to paint an area of the field with the selected block.

Advanced field editing

To use the selection tool, click the "Field Select" in the toolbar. Then click on any location in the field and drag until the box encloses the desired area.

To move the selection to a new location, simply click and hold the left mouse button on the it and drag to its new location. Note that the selection will be drawn on the field in its new location, so any field it covers will be lost.

To delete the selection, click "Cut" in the toolbar. This will copy the selection to the clipboard before it is erased. If there is no selection active, this command is not available.

To copy the selection to the clipboard without erasing it, click "Copy" in the toolbar. If there is no selection active, this command is not available.

To insert a previously copied selection into a field, make sure the "Field Select" tool is selected in the toolbar. Click the upper left corner of where the selection will be placed and then click "Paste" on the toolbar.

To flip the selection, click "Flip Horizontal" or "Flip Vertical" on the toolbar. If there is no selection active, the "Flip" command will flip the entire field.

To rotate the selection, click "Rotate Left," "Rotate Right," or "Rotate Half" on the toolbar to rotate 90 degrees counterclockwise, 90 degrees clockwise, or 180 degrees, respectively. If the selection is disproportional in size, a "space" of "Blank Field" will be left behind. If there is no active selection, the "Rotate" command rotates the entire field.

To fill the selection with a specific block type, click the block type on the toolbar while the selection is active. The "Grid Fill" puts "Destructible Brick" with "Indestructible Block" to form intersections. When a new scheme is created, the field has "Grid Fill" by default. If there is no active selection, the "Fill" command must be selected from the menu and fills the entire field. In this case, the block type buttons will activate the "Field Draw" tool.

If you make a mistake while editing the field, click "Undo" on the toolbar. This undo command applies only to actions which are performed on the "Field" tab, not other editable elements such as power ups and team assignments.

All of the advanced editing commands can also be accessed via the "Field" menu at the top or by clicking the right mouse button on the field.

Power ups

To change the power up assignments for a scheme, click on the "Power Ups" tab. All of the available power ups will have a "Born with" field, an "Override" field with a check box, and a clickable "Random" button. The "Random" power up is shown as a yellow question mark.

To change how many of a power up the players start with, change the value of the "Born with" field. Note that Atomic Bomberman sets internal limits on how big these values can be, so extremely high values (say over 10 or so) may not have the desired effect. Note that a player can never be born with "Disease," "Bad Disease," or "Random," so the "Born with" fields for these items are disabled.

To change the probability that a power up will appear when a "Destructible Brick" is destroyed, check the "Override" check box and enter a value in the field. A positive value will distribute that number of the power up randomly around the field. A negative value will perform a random 1-in-n chance pick for the power up to appear. (For example, setting the override value to "-3" gives a power up a 1 in 3 chance of appearing.) Setting the override value to "0" will prevent the power up from appearing.

To control whether a power up can be gotten from the "Random" power up, click on the "Random" button next to the power up. If the button is pressed in with a red slash then the power up won't appear in a "Random." If the button is unpressed then the power up can be gotten from the "Random."

Miscellaneous

The Window menu will contain a complete list of all open schemes. To switch to a different open scheme, select its name from this menu. Both the scheme description from the "General" tab and the file name, without the path, are shown.

To view program version information, go to the Help menu and select "About."
