Patiently Waiting

---Turn 6--- The Student staggered to his knees, in the snow, and croaked: "I say, Captain, how far is it to the nearest village? It's getting very cold out here." The Mercenary started out of his reverie and stepped forward, half leading, half carrying the semi-conscious Initiate with him. Reaching down, he slid one hand under the kneeling Student’s arm, and heaved him upright. Urkan looked back over his shoulder at them. "It’s about ten minutes walk. In this snow, twenty minutes. With the Goblins…" He shrugged one shoulder. Staring at the Mercenary, he said "haven’t you any blankets in your pack? I know I’ve got one in mine, but I can’t reach it without dropping Mund." The Mercenary frowned. "Damn, I’d forgotten about them. Here" - he stepped back and leant his two companions against each other - "give me a sec, will you?" Pulling the leather backpack off of his shoulders, he undid the buckle and flicked the flap out of the way. Reaching inside, he pulled out two blankets and draped them awkwardly around the Student and Initiate. "The name’s Storm, by the way." The two tried to smile, their faces numb and half-frozen. The Initiate pulled himself upright and stepped away from the shivering Student. The Student, suddenly bereft of support wobbled alarmingly and Storm had to step forward to catch him. The Initiate stomped around in the snow, grumbling to himself. "Should we really be just waiting here? Maybe we should follow the others. I mean, whatever they find, they'll have to come back all this way to get us. If we're right behind them, then we'll all be warm that much sooner." ---End Turn--- |
